As a 17 year old male 3 years ago i paid 2800.
apparently the prices have risen a bit since i first passed. id count anything sub 3k as good.
Id discount anything with a black box, its just not worth the hassle.
Take the policy out in her name, NCB is imperative at this age, i have now got 3 years and pay £300 friends whos policy's were in there parents names are still £1000+as they have no NCB.
i found Social use only, limiting the mileage and putting more experienced drivers on knocked big money off. The logic being if there are other people on the policy the high risk driver is less likely to be driving also if the parents are careful driver the young driver is likely to follow.
Also adding an alarm could know a decent wedge off it just depends.
1st year :£2800
2nd year :£900
3rd year: £500
this year: £350

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
It's all a con ,and when my kids are at the point of needing insurance I will dread it .
My first year was £800 ( mk3 escort ghia lol)
My second was £500. ( mk1 UNO turbo)
My forth year £1200 ( full comp/9 points , 3dr cosworth ) I was 21 .now 36
And I thought they were pricey

Have a look at the policies that fit a black box, these can often help bring the premium down substantially.
I can't fathom the increase in premiums for youngsters. My first car at 18 (Mk3 Escort 1.6Ghia) cost me £830 TPF&T. My brother who's 7 years younger paid £1600 on his first car (Nova 1.2L). My friends brother paid £3800 TP on a 1.2 Corsa C, absolutely bonkers!

Ring up you'll always get a better price on the phone and I always blag it when they ask " what's your best quote" if it's 1500 quid say 900. They'll go away for a few minutes and I've had the prices matched before and I've also had " we can't match that but for X amount we can give you windscreen cover, recovery etc etc. and TPFT is most often cheaper than third party.
Where it's parked helps too. If you've got a driveway, use it. Get a CAT 1 alarm fitted .
Adrian flux have always been good to me because my cars are all modified. but I've never had to claim so can't comment from that side

17 and just passed, as said anything under £3,000 is good. Fully comp can often be cheaper than TPF&T, most places don't even offer Third Party Only cover. Also add a parent with good driving history on as a named driver, I'm 24 and still have my mum on as she saves me a few hundred quid!
Annoyingly I am still in the same age bracket as your daughter (17-24 inclusive) so still getting ripped off royally despite having 5 years NCB (first 2 years I was a named driver on my mum's policy), 7 years experiance with no claims and only had one set of 3 points 5.5 years ago that never affected my premium.
Unfortunately insurance is a rip off but we have to pay it. Getting rid of all the fraudsters would help a lot to bring premiums down though!
