I have just managed to break the key on my VW locking wheel nuts, how do I now get the bloody bolt out?
it is a round headed bolt so I dont think a socket could be smashed over it.
any ideas please

Hammer a small chissle

Chissle down one side and wack a socket over it or you can buy reverse threaded lock nut removing sockets from Halfords snap on etc

i did this a few months back on my RST. Your best chance is to use the socket hammered on to it trick. and try undoing. Other wise is a case of trying to drill the bolt off and thats a real arse of a job as i found out

this is what i do i tighten up the other bolts nice and tight jack it up a litten to remove tention and find a socket the will go over it and taped it in and turn it all ways works from but tighten up the other whee bolts very tight it wil break away alot of tention

go to the last garage that took your wheels off using an air gun and give them shit.....

VW lock nuts are cack....or at least the 'keys' are...... [i'm guessing it's one of the ones with the little spikes that snap off?]

Yep same happen to mine (spike snapped off)

Get yourself a set of mcguard ones, and when you loose the locking wheel nut key you have to order them from Germany with the right key code pattern cos theres no way you get them off otherwise

I had to remove 2 on my Astra this morning. 22mm socket and a hammer took 2mins per side Should of tried the new locking nut removers me bro brought If you go to VW I believe there is only a few seperate patterns of standard locking nuts, so they should be able to match it!

as already said the reverse threaded socket tools are your best bit if all else fails.they sell them in halfords in different sizes , all they do is fit over the nut and as you turn anti-clockwise the thread grips and removes the nut. just use a vice to remove the nut from the tool.

this sounds just the ticket, are they actually called reverse threaded sockets?

i believe they are called 'locking wheel nut removal tool' . bit like ronseal , it does exactly...

just ask for that and the 'helpful' assistants will look puzzled and point you to a more knowledgable member of staff who knows what the hell your on about

As he said, iirc it costs about £20 but it does save the hassle and the cost of buying a new set.

I don't think you'll have much luck with those reverse thread sockets tbh as i've tried this before, it doesn't always work.
