Default Zetec crank pulley bolt EXTREMELY TIGHT HELP?! URGENT

Took delivery of the 2.0 engine today. It was supposedly rebuilt 8k ago but want to put a belt on it for my peace of mind. Trouble is I can't for the life of me get the crank pulley bolt undone, tried a 25" bar with a mate counterholding and no luck. Tried my snap on 1/2" impact gun and still isn't going anywhere. We've put the engine in but not bolted up yet, any ideas on how to get it out?! I don't fancy snapping the bolt and then ruining a £400 engine....

Try something like one of these, eBay item number 361017475182. Failing that use a little bit of heat bit be prepared to replace the seal behind the pulley too. Obviously don't get it too hot

Any chance it might be a left hand thread and you are tightening it instead?
Just a thought.

I've had to get them off by locking the flywheel and using oxy acetaline round the bolt before!

if engines in car wd40 and let it soak , get socket on wrench with a long piece on tube and trap it again the ground , put in in 1st gear and turn it over ive done this loads of times and always works.
if you cant start the car then soak and heat should work like said above

cheers paul

See if u can borrow a 3/4 gun, if not heat the bolt up but be prepared to have to change the crank oil seal. Or a breaker bar with a pole on the end and hold the flywheel still. I've had to heat them up before now

Thanks for the replies guys, engine is in the car now and after fiddling round with the injectors it's running on 4 cylinders. I'll see what I can do to get it off, me and my mate had a very similar problem on his astra, took is best part of a day to get it off. Does anybody have any idea what changing the belt is like in an Si/16V XR2i etc. Looks very tight, engine was a pig to get in and out?

A bit of carefully applied heat should get you sorted.

My blacktop zetec in my escort I reckon its engine out to change the belt, crank pulley deffo not coming out thats for sure. Chassis leg on a fiesta is different so you might be able to do it in situ.

Cheers, engine looks like it has been rebuilt though like the seller said. Tensioner looks brand new and belt looks like it's barely been on long, coupled with how clean the block and head are so not in any rush just hope it's okay for time being. Blacktop is custom mounts and everything anyway isn't it? Doubt the fiesta engine will need to come out unless Ford were stupid enough to make it that hard, looks tight but will give it ago if I can get the pulley loose lol. Might nip into a garage see how much they'll charge to fit the belt, cba now haha

Cheers, are these prone to snapping or ever experienced it? This is what concerns me most, engine cost enough as it was without it snapping in the crank...
