victim of van theft with no sign of damage
I've just been a victim of van theft, they took my brand new tools and some tools I've kept well for years..... scum of the earth. NO SIGN OF VAN DAMAGE WHATSOEVER! !!!!!! I thought I was the only one who's van has been broken into without any sign of visual damage...... clearly not!!!! My insurers we're saying I have no tools cover etc!!!! We'll I proved them wrong. I emailed them my policy/schedule.... now I think they'll do whatever they can in order to stop payout! !!! They cannot pay for psychological and emotional damage!!!!! I may be tough on the outside but definitely a softy on the in. ....

I'm not asking for sympathy from people, I wanted to speak with more people whom have had their vehicles broken iinto without physical damage, thanks but no thanks for your obvious advice. Every circumstance is different and you don't know mine. A person has their lively hood taken away and you bring up the 'common sense' card, anyone with 'common sense' would know, now is not a good time.

One thing is for sure, if you're a genuine and honest claimant, the insurance company will treat you like a criminal and do everything they can to wriggle out of paying.

Well I had the insurers today, made them apologise. They certainly tried to wriggle out of paying...... said I had no 'tools in van' cover. They asked for me to emsil my policy cover as they didn't have same info on their screens to suggest I was covered. Yeah right........... Oh we're so sorry......

What a stupid thing to say.
That's like saying if your house gets broken into and everything stolen, you should have had everything in a secure compound.
Anyone who actually uses a van for work purposes in the likes of construction industry, it is totally impractical to empty the van every night.

Thank you for your support, some people have facilities in place to empty out your van and others don't, I am one who don't. I live with family and have no garage or lock up close by, maybe I should carry all my tools into my bedroom! :s
It was a stupid thing to say....
Someone has their livelihood taken away from them and people have the audacity to name people as 'idiotic'.

The old keys look very similar to the new keys, just the fob seems more bulkier. The actually cut looks very much similar.

Anyone saying empty out your van every night should get real.
At any given time I probably have over 4k in spare parts, tools and equipment to do my job. No way am I going to empty it out. I just have insurance cover for it.

It would take me a good hour each day to unload my van of valuable's and then the same again each morning to to put it all back in again. It wouldn't be practical to do this, so i don't.

Sorry to hear about your theft there mate, welcome to the forum. A guy I know with a transit had had every lock changed for a security lock, it's like a wrap around plate, not sure what it's called, he caught some lads on his cctv trying to get in, there were there for 20 minutes and gave up. Might be worth investing in them. As for emptying the van overnight, all well if u have a couple of bags of tools in the back of an escort van but I know a couple of mobile mechanics and there van would take at least half a day to empty! Shame you've been called some names on here, why people start on the bandwagon of blaming the victim, if it wasn't for thieving scum we wouldn't need to lock everything up like Fort Knox, it's the thieves fault not yours

Full respect for those words my friend.... I think the law is too lenient on criminals... we pay taxes, our roads should be policed better and thieves as well as many criminals should not be roaming our streets, anyway that's another debate.

I cant see anyone being nasty ?? You either empty it or up the security if you cant empty it . Not nice whats happened but I have a van and I leave it empty so I don't become a victim .Nothing is safe so don't take the risk

Anyone who says to empty the van every night clearly either has no tools in the first place, or never uses their van for work purposes.
It's as stupid as saying you shouldnt lock your tools in the garage overnight in case it gets broken into.

Or empty out your house and put all expensive items in a vault. Either way a victim is a victim, the victim gets criticised no matter what....... if a man gets attacked and as a result gets stabbed, should he or she have been wearing a stab proof vest???? If you store your tools in your she'd or house, they'll break into your house......Yes I will be installing an alarm on my van but how much should I do? Alarm, empty out van, extra security locks. What I did do back in my early years, not lock the van but just have an alarm set, when a so called oportunist came along they would try the handles and once door opened the alarm would trigger and the perpetrator would scarper!

The transits at my work have plates bolted onto the doors with round padlocks because one of the guy who works here stays in Manchester and had all his tools kindly removed. The joys of living down south.

Some people have to park in the street and may live in a flat etc I can't empty my van either as it would take too long but I often bring the two most expensive things out the van so if it gets done I haven't lost the lot
Bloody scum need shooting

I guess everyone could place their valuables in a secure storage locker facility. Ya know like diamonds, gold, jewellery etc...somewhere so secure it would never get broken into.
Except they broke into that too.

I don't have all the answers at all , as said I have a van WITH MORE THAN THE STANDARD SECURITY ON IT !!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't be that stupid to have items on it with standard locks .
And houses and diamonds have nothing to do with what this thread was started for so get back on track . If you think Loading a mk7 transit up with tools and leaving it parked out on the road is ideal then good luck too you .
Answers , Get security any normal person would say the same !
