How much to budget for a tidy sapphire cosworth?...
Be in the market shortly for one of these...
Not too fussed on colour or 2wd or 4wd, Either is good to me...
Would like a tidy one, Prices seem to vary a lot and seem to have gone up over the past year...
How much is a sensible amount to budget for a tidy sapphire?...
Thanks guys.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
You are in the best position as you have no preference to colour or 2 or 4wd as Pete has said 10-15k is the rate at the minute it took me a year before I found my one but I was after a black car but was offered a lot of wronguns but worth holding out to save agro

What Staffi said, try look on enthusiast club websites, loads of crap on ebay etc and from traders adding ££££s to rubbish cars just because its got cosworth on the boot lol. Buy from an owner who has taken care of the car.Good one do come up from time to time.

Glenn, Saphcosmikes car is like new, how much time and money has he spent to get it up to that standard, an Escort Cosworth to the same standard would be at least £25k. If I didnt have a nice Saph myself I would buy it today.

Pete i defo agree matey loads of saffs have been broken and like you say they are starting to go up in value cause of this. I love fords and cossies but i think 12k is mad money for a sierra with a posh engine. It will be interesting to see what the price of them will be in 5 years time.

Good 2WD cars will be the ones that will command strong money ( imo anyway) and that's not a dig at 4x4 owners before I get flamed
Best driving Cosworth for me is the 2WD Sapphire

i agree best driving cossie-2wd saph as standard as poss
as far as values £6.5-£9k for a real tidy car-imho
any more than that i would like to see either a restored minter sub 4 owner car
or an original showpiece-condition 1 completely unwelded
lots of people jumping on the price bandwagon-there are two prices for everything-one to decorate the classifieds-one to sell ...
and having had a few they can swallow cash real quick-especially for those rs only parts lol
all that said for us oldies they are a bit of an icon,an 80s classic no doubt

From advertised prices, I wouldn't want to be looking at buying anything less than £12k unless I wanted a project. £10k might just scrape you something decent if you're careful.

Dont forget,in December 2014 there were only just over 500 2wd Sapphires still road registered, there are more 3 doors out there now. As more get broken they will become rarer and so prices will rise.

Funny how most of the high-ballers are Saph owners eh.
Most owners who think their car is 10k+ aren't driving a 10k+ car in my opinion. Owners of average cars see top end cars for strong money and think that because theirs has half a dozen coats of autoglym and is nice and shiny, that they're up there with the best and advertise them at a similar level.
But then owners of the genuine minters see these average cars advertised at ~10k and think 'well I'm not selling for the same price as that car when I know mine is better in X, Y or Z way' ...so I'll stick it my car up for a bit more; and so the cycle goes round and round.
Tony66 has got it spot on IMO... £10,000 should buy a brilliant Saph. It won't buy a concours winner or an ultra low mileage/low owner car; but it should buy a car which will need NO serious money spent on it for quite a while.
Cheers,
Grant

I agree I would be better off stripping all the good stuff off mine and returning to standard and selling off the bit there is probably another 6k there but then you could say the same about the mk1 focus people advertising them for 10k ect and quite clearly sell at around 6 -7k matter of fact show me a RS that isnt over priced at the moment

Blimey, prices have risen a lot.
TBH I don't see them that high.
Mine is 1993, k reg, air con, leather (I have spare minty Rainbow trim), 114k miles, 18" comps (have std sharktooths), Nouveux Red, had blow over as 2 panels were marked, rot free, not seen rain in 12 years lol, but I only see that around the £8k mark (perhaps I am wrong)

The cars haven't gone up just a lot of people over pricing IMO
Agree a good car is worth what ever someone is willing to pay & I would pay £10k + for the right car but the majority of them are shiters being sold by chancers.
