I tried everything to get to the bottom of things. Phoned tuner countless times. He tried to get me to talk to resprayer of his choice, Classic Restorations. I also called their insurance company direct. Unfortunately the latter was after the event, but they could not give me much information anyway.
Here is independant report from Dunn Shaw about my car
Vehicle: 12/08/1985 AUDI 90 QUATTRO 4DR SALOON
Registration:
Chassis No
Mileage 174244548120
9,824
30 May 2008
Dear Sir,
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
Further to your recent instructions I would confirm that I have now been able to carry out a visual inspection on the above vehicle on 29.05.2008 at Longcross Chobham and would advise as follows.
Background
The vehicle ( modified both mechanically and cosmetically) sustained accident damage to the nearside frontal area causing damage to the n/s/f wing, front bumper and bonnet which were either replaced or repaired, whilst in the care of a garage carrying out mechanical repairs to it, and was repaired before it was returned to you.
Some two to three years prior to this the vehicle had been subject to a high quality repaint.
You are concerned over the quality of the recent repairs and standard of the work, which is why you instructed our selves to inspect and report on the vehicle.
Inspection Findings
1. Newly painted areas do not match existing paint work, most visible from o/s/f wing to o/s/f door, n/s A post and n/s/f door to n/s/r door, when viewed from a distance.
2. Orange peel; and dryness to new paint work, worse on bonnet.
3. Paint work cracked/split around o/s/f wing vent grille.
4. Front bumper black painted section has different finish to rear bumper and cracks/splits to bumper/paint around cooling cut outs.
5. General standard of repairs does not match condition of vehicle and previous repairs/work that has been carried out to it.
Conclusion
The repairs that have been recently carried out to the vehicle although structurally sound have been let down by the paint work finish and attention to detail.
To return the vehicle to its pre-accident condition the newly painted areas require re-working with the correctly matching paint, following repairs to the o/s/f wing vent grille which has been damaged as a result of the impact/shock, front bumper and smoothing of the textured finish. Following which the vehicle requires re-assembling with attention to detail so that the visual appearance is such that there is no out ward signs that it has been either damaged or repaired.
I would anticipate that the rectification work would take approximately 5-6 days to complete and that costs would be approximately Ł900.00 Labour and Ł310.00 Paint Materials Sundries Ł25.00 plus vat.
I confirm that insofar as the facts stated in my report are within my own knowledge I have made clear which they are and I believe them to be true, and that the opinions I have expressed represent my true and complete professional opinion. I also understand that the report may be used in court and that my overriding duty is to assist the court on matters which are within my expertise.
I hope that the above is of assistance but if there are any points either your self’s or the repairers wish to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
For and on behalf of
Dunn Shaw

OP: I think most now know who it is, but if you came out and said it, it might play havoc with your legal stuff (you mentioned a solicitor)

THis money was not for an engine build, just for an upgrade (GT35R with WRC bearings = Ł1850 +VAT, BMW M5 coils, new IM and water injection).
My car was taken to a so called Ford 'specialist' because my old tuner Ashford Motorsport applied Ford methods to the build making my Audi quite unique. In particular the use of the Pectel which was mapped by Ahmed Bayjoo made it difficult to find a tuner that could work on my car.

A GT35 was under a grand inc VAT back then before the pound went shit shape.
I'm sure it would have worked perfectly well without the "WRC" bearings.
Quite how some bearings and possibly a little machining costs Ł1030 extra is quite beyond me??
A while ago i read a magazine article in FF or PF where a guy had a 550 bhp YB engine and when talking about it he said his tuner had suplied WRC spec cams.
I guess what he really meant was his tuner had supplied BD10s at twice the normal price so they had to be called speacial WRC and not cams designed for a 34mm air restrictor and about 300 bhp max.
Who's suggestion was the WI? Did they log your charge temps on the T6 first to see if you actually needed it?

I can't answer question about data on T6 as I don't know and I am trying to stick to facts here. What I do know, is that when my engine was dynoed at DTW, the max temp reached was under 900 degrees.
The WI was the tuner's suggestion and as can be seen, not sure that actually helps in any way?
When the car was be rolling roaded with this tuner, EGT's were not being measured at all.
I have read somewhere, this is apparently one of the main purposes of using a RR?

To clarify WI was an idea from the same tuner that made the manifold and crashed the car?
Seeing as they were doing alot of road testing (hence crashed car) they could have logged the inlet air charge temps to see if they were suitable. It looks like you have a pretty big intercooler on there.
Charege temps are better measure on the road than on a RR as the RR cell cannot replicate the actual airflow over the intercooler you will get on the road.
Who are DTW??

We all know who the tuner in question is. For Many Say they were a good tuner but looking at the service this guy has got they should be chucked back in the FIELD with the rest of the tuner bull shit.

One of the main problems as it transpires was splits and cracks in my custom manifold from my first tuner, but I did not know the extent of thewm until it was pointed out to me by the new tuner. THe old tuner would have repaired that for free.
This thread is all about getting ripped off by the latest tuner for the shoddy work I have had since and documented above. And to top all of this, my car was smashed up and the repairs carried out to it were not even second rate. THe tuner, instead of doing something to appease me, just fobbed me off and tried getting me to speak with the repair shop directly washing his hands of all responsibility.
I am not prepared to let this go and will do whatever it takes to get my car back to her former glory.

Bump for a good thread, thankyou for showing your info/problems and hope you get it sorted.
As the man says, anyone else out there got any info about problems people have had with the company that has been hinted at in this thread.
Sharing is always good, its a shame people didn't do the same thing with quattronics on the s2forum.
cheers

I have just looked at this thread and relived my pain. However, I noticed a great many posts have gone missing from this post, including people that were trying to defend FMS.
I just wondered why this has happened?

it's taken a while to get it back looking like that. More importantly, it was mapped properly by Ahmed and goes like stink too

Hmmmmmm? If that is the case, it's a bit strange that the initial posts remain and only some of the later posts got wiped?
