3 door cossie died
Hi all, my 3 door has not been started for 3-4 weeks. I started it up a couple of days ago to make room for some building materials. It fired up on first turn of the key and was running as sweet as a nut. I drove it down my drive, about 40ft, and it cut out straddling the pavement. After a couple of attempts, it fired up briefly and cut out again. I have checked the ignition and there is a spark . I used a spare plug and no 1 ignition lead to check this out. I have taken the plugs out and they seem ok. I squirted some cold start into the air filter and the engine fired up briefly. I have put in 10 litres of petrol just to make sure that the fuel gauge is not telling lies. I again tried to start it but no joy. Another squirt of cold start and again it fired up briefly. No obvious signs of loose wiring. Petrol pump seems to be ticking up and charging fuel system. Any ideas anyone?. Or perhaps someone can recommend a good mobile mechanic come auto electrician close to Waterlooville area. I would be grateful for any help or advice. John.

Is the fuel pump running? Fuel pump loom is a common fault
Edit: seen youve said the fuel pump seem to be priming but from what your saying im 99% sure its a fuel starvation issue.

Hi,check fuel pump relay and fuse behind dash panel above glove box, also take dizzy cap off along with rotor arm, check wiring for "eye" sensor is ok and not shorting out to dizzy body.
If ok, hard wire the + side of the fuel pump, so it runs all the time, then try and start it!
Cheers

Thanks guys. Taking the easy route first, how do i check the fuel pressure regulator is working correctly Secondly, I think I will check the fuel pump fuse, and then the relay. If the relay is the problem , then would it possibly blow the fuse. Also, if the pump is the problem, would that again possibly blow the fuse ?. I am also sure that it is a fuel issue because as I have already said, it starts briefly when a squirt of damp start is used. Again, thanks for your thoughts, and any further help you may be able to offer. John.

I have just removed the fuel feed from the end of the fuel rail, and found that fuel is not reaching it. Battery disconnected and car locked up and put to bed for the winter, or until I feel more in the mood to sort it. New toy arriving Monday. 1988 Chevrolet Corvette C4.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
I had an issue with one my escort cosworths previously lack of fuel pressure to get it to run and revving it to try to keep it to run can seriously damage the run with it running lean.
