Default Brake options under RS7 Spokes

I'd really like to fit some bigger brakes behind my rs7's but as we know its a bit tricky as clearance is a problem. They only clear the standard 4 pots with a 3mm spacer.

I've thought about getting some hispec 325x24mm rotors with offset bells and keep the std calipers but for the price i just dont think its going to be worth it?

Now thinking of converting to a std mk2 focus ST or even RS brake setup if they will fit. With single piston calipers clearance should be less of an issue. The disc height is very similar to the 2wd cossie too. Obviously they would need to be drilled to 4 stud but the PCD is the same so only 3 holes to drill in the disc (i realise some may think this is a bad idea??)

The ST has 320mm discs snd RS 336mm so this has got to be an improvement on the standard cossie brakes.

Whats people's thoughts? Am i thinking a load of shite?

I tried with Focus RS mk1 discs and BMW M3 calipers.

Discs fit great on 2WD Cosworth hubs but the calipers clashed with the hub.

I would have had to remove all the metal marked red in the pic below

Sold them on and went with Mk3 Mondeo calipers and Focus ST170 discs in the end. You will need to drill out the hubs though to do this!

You can fit 330mm AP 4 pots behind RS 7 spokes on a 2WD car. I'd wait for a second hand kit to pop up and fit that instead of going with the standard calipers.

That's good to know

Do you have any pics or links to AP brake kit that fits ?

Looking at your pics mark im sure the mk2 rs disc will fit as they are 10mm larger overall than the mk1 rs discs.

A complete mk2 setup has come up for a reasonable cost and i am in the process of getting dimensions. The mk2 rs calipers will give me an extra 13-15mm clearance behind the spokes which is excellent.

I just need to find out if an rs7 will actually fit over the caliper, ie is the inner diameter available in the wheel big enough to accommodate? Im thinking it would be if APs with 330mm discs will fit?

I didn't want to go down the mk3 mondeo caliper and st170 disc, does it actually stop better than the standard 2wd setup?

Do you know which APs?

Only issue with this is it gets expensive. One rotor will cost almost what an entire mk2 front setup is worth!

My car is in a million pieces, so I have no idea

No way I'm going to use wheel spacers though, just don't like the idea of them.

Plus there is more chance of the tyre catching the arch.

Fair enough!

I have to run spacers with the std 4 pots, only a 3mm but the tyres catch the arch liners sometimes

The more I am thinking of this the more I like the idea of the mk2 RS setup. It cant be that difficult to fit and the discs are nice and big.

Put some pics up if you go ahead and do the conversion

What size tyres are you running?

I've got 215/40/17 but have never driven the car with them on ....

I am also running 215/40/17. mistake I made was getting tyres with rim protectors as they add width I believe?

I will post up pics if I can make it work. There is approx. 380mm diameter inside an RS7, think the only thing stopping it working is that not being big enough? only leaves just over 20mm for the caliper to pass between the disc and wheel!?

Been doing a little more research into this and I'm not sure the mk2 RS setup will work?

we already know that mondeo mk3 calipers will fit the sierra hub and all mk3 mondies have the same brakes as far as I know?. A popular bolt on upgrade for st220 is the mk2 focus st setup so therefore these should also fit the sierra hub

however the mk2 RS brakes are apparently not a bolt on upgrade to the ST cars due to the hub carrier being different.

i wonder if the mk2 ST calipers will fit over a MK1 RS disc? 320x25mm vs 324x28mm??

I believe i have found a solution to this using the standard 2wd 4 pots and a 325mm diameter disc. It even has the bonus of loosing the spacer needed with the standard set up

I shall put pics up once ive got it sorted and my brackets made up

Not sure of a 4 pot caliper option that would be easy?

However st225 focus suff might well fit?, you'd only have to convert the discs to 4 stud, they have 320mm discs, unless you can use mk1 focus rs discs with the st calipers? You would need to check the offsets and if the caliper will take the width of the disc etc

It all depends on the wheels you are using. But the Focus RS mk1 discs don't fit the 4x4 due to the offset. I have a Reyland 320x25 mm kit with standard calipers and it just fits on my 17x8 Hockenheim wheels. Perhaps the Focus ST calipers can be used on that disc though.
