4x4 sump
Hi guys,
Need some help my cosworth 4x4 sump has been leaking 4 some time now, & as I've just painted the hole underside I don't want to fit everything back on & for that to cover everything in oil!!!!
So as I have no gearbox, shocks, drive shafts, wheels, etc on how easy is it to take front sump off & diff clean up & put all back on??? As don't want to lift engine out completely.
& what sealer do I need & any gaskets???
Thanks Lee

I may be wrong but I thought of suspending the engine with a hoist, so it's off its mounts, undo the cross member, take that out the way then tackle the sump & diff???
Like I said I may be wrong hence any help would be appreciated.

undo the front prop bolts first before removing anything else
suspend the engine from the turrets via a big bit of wood or a scaffold pole
remove the subframe and steering
if you then undo the tca's after this they won't be under so much tension and should freely move out of the way so you can pulled the shafts out
the sump will now come off once you've undone the 3 bolts that hold the diff into place on the side
there is a rubber o-ring that sits in a slot in the diff casing, make sure there is a replacement for this as leaks from here are a pain in the arse
give it a whole day to get done as it's not as easy as it sounds

Do ford do them still? Sorry for all the questions but don't want do this twice

undo the intermidiate shaft at the bulkhead and some pipes for the fluid and the crossmember will then come out with the rack attached
the diff bolts are very obvious and i'm pretty sure ford will still do the o ring
sump sealer you can get from ford too, its the black stuff i seem to recall
