t38 rb problems
I have just fitted my new T38 rb turbo from cr turbos and have a couple of questions. Firstlly do these tend to smoke a bit on overun, it was my old t34.63 made into the t38 and it never smoked last week with that on.
Secondly, I have a turbo hanger from autospecialists and would like to know how to install it without it rattling/buzzing on the rose joints. I think it is a poor design as surely it would be better with a turn buckle with opposite threads so you can tighten it when bloted up, as at the moment it only has half a turn on the rose joint? any ideas? Thanks

Hope it isn't the turbo as it wasn't cheap, it's not the engine as it was fully rebuilt 2,000 miles ago form top to bottom, I havn't driven it yet and saying that I thought it was starting to clear a bit. I will give it a good run in morning and see how it is then. Any ideas on the hanger, the instructions said fit when hot but you still only have half a turn either way otherwise the top bolt goes in cross threaded.

Oil and filter was changed and I am using 5w40 Platinum oil which is castrol, we buy it in 205L drums at work and it's been on this since the rebuild. Just checked the oil level before I drive it to work and it is a little high on the dipstick, well it was a rush job after work last night! I will drain some out this morning and get it on tohe level this could be the problem. As for the hanger I have noticed the rose joint neaest the turbo is very close and only has to twist 2mm and is then touching the machined washers that sit in the vracket on the turbo. so I will try and space this out so when it twists it won't touch the washers.

I primed the turbo before connecting the hose, then turned it over with injectors disconected for 30 secounds or so for good measure. As for the resticter, not sure, the turbo only came back with a new union/adapter which has a hole straight through it, so guessing it's not a resticter, this was a new union supplied not the one i sent it away with. The car does have a high pressure oil pump, but this does not explain why it never smoked prior to fitting the t38. Colud it be a faulty seal in the turbo?

After doing some research it turns out the ball bearing core does require a flow restricor and this did not come with the turbo, I will phone CR turbos monday and get one sent out. Will driving it until i fit the restrictor damage the turbo at all, or just continue to smoke a bit?

It is smoking from the tail pipe, as for the remap i've got an msd custom chip which was for the T34.63, 7:2:1, ABO7 , 55lb siemens etc i also have an afr gauge and was told as long as the reading is in the low 11s then all was ok? tbh with the base co set as per instructions the old turbo on full boost alawys read between low 10s and 11 so guess it was mapped to run a bit rich anyway?
