Default Cosworth Niggles - Very strange goings on

So.... been storing and 'fettling ' my cosworth since I bought it back last November. Its hopefully going to be ready for 1st March

The only two times I have driven her are just very local, just to check brakes, fluid leaks etc. On those two occasions, the Gremlins have emerged!!!

Today, my run went very well, some nice chatter from 2nd
Come to a stop, all OK, dip the clutch for 1st, engine dies. Very dim ignition lights, nothing to the starter. Checked the terminals which were a little loose, and away she went. All terminals have been cleaned and greased.

Started, dip the clutch, loose all power. Could believe it~! Had to push the car back on the drive.

Im pretty damn sure there is no electrical feed off the clutch(!) so followed the clutch cable through the bulkhead to the gearbox - couldnt see any problems.

Had her running again tonight, tried to replicate the problem but it now seemed fine! Dont want that happening on the main road.... any ideas guys?!?!

Maybe the earth to the engine block is on its way out and the engine is earthing itself via the clutch cable ? Have seen that a couple of times before

Hmmm that would sound about right. Where is/should the earth strap be? I think i'll fit at additional strap .... just to rule that out

Thanks for the advise.

Best suggestion has to be the engine earth strap, you can see this connect to the passenger side of the engine block, near the starter.

Won't be alternator, if it were the battery would be discharged.

Sorry all I'm not a mechanic but could this have something to do with the idle control valve. A had a Mk5 Escort on an early 91 plate which was fitted with a 1.6i CHV engine and this always used to cut out like this.....sorry if this is a stupid suggestion....

If base idle set the car shouldn't stall when warm with a bad icv, sounds like poor connections to me, I would disconnect every earth strap and loom connection, clean them up and reconnect. Also looked for any damaged wires.

I would be checking to see if the alternator is charging ok.
