What would cause my rev counter to stop working? Last couple of days everynow and then it would read only half the revs then be ok after a few minutes. Any ideas?

It's going to be a poor connection, either the green wire or sometimes the actual track on the PCB on the gauge itself breaks.

Not within the ECU as that has nothing to do with the tacho, the common problem is the PCB on the actual instrument itself, fortunatly it's easily repaired, if it is this.

I do hope it wasn't glass paper you used to clean the earths up ?, the glass particles can melt on the surfaces if there is any arcing and are a ace insulator, though this was normally a problem on older cars where people cleaned the points with glass paper, and the car conked out a few miles later!!
