Unhappy Problem with the fans staying on on my saph 4x4,was ok last time i started it???

hello guys and girls,

just wondering if any of you could help me solve this problem im having with my 4x4...saff

Basically the car hasnt been started for about a month maybe six weeks ago and was running fine before hand, the battery then went flat where i havent used it.i went out to give it a jump start last night with a booster pack and it fired up straight away so i thought ill let everything warm up properly before taking it round the block, was waiting for the temps to rise and let the fans kick in which they did, fine i thought. then within 30 seconds of the fans coming on the battery died and engine cut out,the fans still carried on going as they run off the battery, thought id give it a jump again which i did successfully but still ten minutes later the fans are still roaring away, turned engine and ignition off, still going...in the end i had to pull the 2 connectors under the rad apart to stop the fans going.decided to call it a night as it was getting dark....

went back out there this afternoon to have another go and see what happens, there was no life in the battery so plugged the 2 connectors back in and thought i'd give it another go.put the booster pack back on the car ready to fire it up,as soon as i turned on the booster pack with jumpleads on the battery the fans fired into action..... and car hasnt even been turned over yet WTF!!!

is it possible that something tripped out when the battery died and i jumped it the second time with the fans already running..

any ideas welcome as not sure what to check next

thanks again,rick

There are only really two things that could do this the FAN SWITCH stuck in the CLOSED(ON) position, so pull the switch plug and see if the fans stop(when COLD), if they do it is the switch, if they don't it is the relay that next needs looking at.
Occasionally they do stick in the closed position(ON), so this would flatten your battery.
If it is just pull it out of the FUSEBOX, then when it stops replace it with a new one, just a std relay, make sure the terminals are in the same position.
