why do we bother?
we spend fortunes on our cossies and there always something needing done, ive spent the best part of 10k on mine in the last year, ill list what ive done and what misfortune i have had!
1,full respray with all new seals, rubbers, mouldings.
all the new sideskirt clips have broken, door mouldings have wrinkled.
2,fitted 17 inch wheels and gaz coilovers.
coilovers rubbed off body, tyres rubbed off of front arches.now i have it in my head that i want an adjustable rear beam and tcas, then it would need a full geometry set up!where do you stop?
3,fitted quickshift.
it was a pain to fit and it makes a grinding noise in fifth gear.
4,fitted an electric sunroof.
had to but 3 before i could get 1 that would work.
it just seems that you take 1 step forward sometimes and 2 back.anybody else think so?

it can sometimes get you down. But for me its the joy of finally getting it done and shaming all youre mates in their evos, subarus and skylines in an old ford.
The fifth gear cosworth sums it all up for me
They spend all that money on a lotus it breaks. a bloke spends a shedload of cash on a pulsar it breaks.
then the 20 year old ford breaks 200 mph and takes the spoils
im spending nearly 15 grand all in on mine but i sold my 03 plate STI to be in it and could have had any car from a massive selection. But i still went with a cossie.
I do wonder myself sometimes
its also about the scene mate its more than just a car its sort of like a lifestyle
Hope that helps

My car has just come back from the paint shop after 4 months, all inside the doors and shuts painted and inside the boot done now its back the job looks shit and the knobhead has painted it the wrong colour. To say i was distraught is an under statement. Its one thing after another at the mo with my car and i still have the headgasket to sort. But i still love it to look at and drive just needs painting in the right colour.

I felt the same when i first bought my cossie over 2 years ago. I bought it from sheffield and i live in the north east. I dove all the way back in it and it never missed a beat. 2 days later i took it to work for the first time and it broke down. Fixed that then it wouldnt start again last year fixed that, wheel bearing went i found out a needed a complete hub fixed that. Touch wood its been ok since last april. I love my cossie to bit and i just love the looks you get when your driving about. They are just an old car that needs loads of care.

Are things that bad now? I owned my Saph for 5 years and had next to nothing to do to it, apart from servicing and some minor repairs.
Looking to get another one now and beginning to worry that things have went downhill since I sold mine 3 years ago.

I love mine but I'm a fan of the mechanical side of things and the performance. I don't care about paint and perfection. I don't think I could worry about resprays and major cosmetic problems. Having said that the mechanical stuff if enough to drive you potty sometimes. But I'll always remember the horror of working on my Nissan 200sx and thank god that the Cossie is so easy to work on.

I have my car totally stripped and on a rotisserie, its been on it for a long time and will be on it for a few months more.. I just keep making new parts for it. I am making all the adjustable stuff, as you guys said it is relatively easy to work on and there is lots of technical information.
It may not be as technically advanced as my wifes 300zx but I would rather work on my car any day, that car has everything crammed in to a tight space and the options are pretty much canned.
And when I finally get it done I can drive a RS00 styled 3door down the road and get those looks you talk about.. In fact we put the engine in a friends sapphire and even then I got the looks and people stopping me to say how cool and unique it was...
They may not be the latest technology but they are sure are unique and known as racing marque... Im happy

Thats the thing with cossies very are just a pure legend. In there day everyone had them. They are just an old car now with old technolagy so very are bound to have problems now. Alot of people slate cossies but people need to know that most of them have been ragged to death. Cv the end of the day they were a cheap proformance car when they came out. Just keep spending the money on them, after all its only money and you carnt take it with you when its your time to go (die).

I've spent about Ł10k in the 3+ years owning mine, and don't regret it. It's a fun car that everyone knows is special.
You can pull up next to a Ł100k Bentley or something, and more people will be looking at the Cossie.

Yeh, I totally agree, in the Cossie you will always get respect and heads will trun from people in more expensive motors. I have had mine for 12 years now, and apart from the clutch, clutch rachit, wire break in the fuse box, fans not working, bouncy rev counter, fuel pump relay, its been great, infact its the best car I have ever owned to date..
Don't give up on her fella, its a cossie after all, and they are old cars which demand respect, time, love and loads of f@in money 2!!
But for me the Cossie is addictive!!!

This might cheer you up. We had a evo on a04 plate which needed rear brake discs. From the main dealer they were 200 pound each or 100 pound each for mickey mouse ones. 400 quid for a pair of discs fuck that. I got told that the main dealer charges about 1000 pound to do a clutch on 1. I love my cossie it always puts a smile on my face when i drive it. I had put it away for the winter and i missed driving it.

dont get me wrong,i love it,ive had 3 sapphys and after the teething problems it will be great, but its really pissing me off
UPDATE!
tonight i chipped the rs500 style splitter doing a 3 point turn.
my pals vr6 corrado showed me a clean pair of heels, then couldnt keep up as i cant use 5th as the quickshift makes a grinding noise
chipped the paint on the spoiler with the foam brush
most of the problems are down to me but i do something to it everyday, the car is mintish, its showing 32k on the clock,no history but the shell had all its original paint on it when it was rubbed down and there was very little rust about it so who knows,it was stolen recovered so i dont have any history for it.i really wish i had left it standard and spent money on the engine instead of wheels and bodywork as im always swerving round potholes, another problem is the paranoia,is the gearbox grinding, was that blue smoke, cant park it here, did the outside security light just come on,is the engine rattling?all good fun though!
