Default Front Bumper Fitting

Do the lugs that go in the chassis box sections have retaining bolts? (ie like the rear bumper!)

I know you've got the side brackets that always break but i'm unsure of the centre lugs...

...I've seen they've got a hole in the top of each lug but can't see anywhere where you can get a bolt to it once its slid in the rubber mounts and then the body!!!

It didn't come with any bolts but the manual says there's one each side!

NO they don't normally have bolts that go through these holes, unless fitted with RS500 intercoolers, then the bolts that secure these on pass up the chassis section through the holes you see in the bumper hangy bits!!

Thanks for that tabetha... although the lugs would have to be about half as long again to reach the rad/intercooler holes!!!

Both the side brackets are knackered... has anyone found a good way of repairing or replacing these without having to get another bumper or stupidly priced new ones?!!!

Are they the same on other models?...

I repaired mine with 2 long 13mm bolts and 2 big body washers each side. But without lookin at your bumper brackets i cudnt tell you how to repair it.

There are two different sorts used depending on year.
Easiest way is to fabricate some flat plate, with a sticky out bit that the side bolt goes through, bend drill a few holes and attach at the top, behind trim strip, and bottom on flange, this is one way the oe ford did it.

tabetha I think i know what you're saying but all i've got are the two sort of 'I' shaped riveted plates (and one of those is cracked!), no brackets or anything... so i'm not 100% on what its even supposed to be like!!! lol

glennshute I'll get some pics of what I've got in the daytime...

there fuked lol! the mounting lugs broken right off!

If you can afford it buy new brackets, if not peel back the bumper black strip and use some long flat headed M6 bolt and put them threw behind this strip, then mark the front wing to where these bolt will go threw and drill the correct size holes, rust proof them and fix the bolts in place with some nilock nuts job done carefully fit the bumper strip back in place and then you won't see the head of the bolts

silky16v Thing is, if its a common thing (like sideskirt clips breaking) i'd rather save some money and do a more longer-lasting fix!!!...

...your solution sounds like a plan. Roughly would the hole in the wing lie?... in the same area as the triangular hole for the original lug? And i guess the strip is easy enough to take out and put back in?

I would buy some stainless sheet, and try to replicate oringinal, bit of a pain to do but not hard, just time consuming.

Yeah the plate doesn't look that hard to copy but its the lug itself i'm unsure of... has anyone got any pics of what its meant to look like?!

At the moment I think i'll give the bolt through option a go...

the hole would line up further along to the front and higher up yes the black strip peels back quite easy just be careful over time it can go brittle

Someone was selling a pair of new plates on Ebay last week - starting price £90 and I don't think they had a bid.

I got some from PJ Motorsport many years ago for (I think) £60 the pair.

i can't see the pics but if you are on about the torx headed olts in the centre supports, they are for the hieght adjustment of the bumper and don't actually bolt into anything else

what i will add though is that if you remove the headlights you can see (with x ray vision) these same bits of adjustment brackets that will be running through the chaissis legs and soem peole will drill through the chassis leg and into this support bracket and bolt them up to stop little toe rags from just simply unscrewing your front bumpers and having it away with just a 13mm spanner

Right... i've quickly tried the 'bolt-through-wing' idea but it was clear that no matter how high I pull up the sides of the bumper the corners sit too low!!!... resulting in a mahoosive gap!!!...

The centre of the bumper is as high as it can be (towing eye's sitting on the cover).

Not sure if there's an issue with the bumper or not... may have to bite the bullet and get another one...

...to be honest its things like this that make me question whether the project's worth it!!!

the supports are fucked
it's not that they are cracked because you can always fix them but the bits you have missing aren't replaceable without buying the hwole side mount

so get a side mount and job done

i can't rememebr who it was that said they were making a set up in plate ali, one of them forign blokes from the neartherrlands, someone gt?

i think his post was in the cossie room

dojj and robocos... Thanks for that, I'll see if I can find the post... (although I'm not convinced that new side brackets will pull the corners up too!)

Do you think I'm stupid?!... of course they are, with little metal plates to lift it even higher!!! The towing eye is touching the cover so it physically can't go any higher!!!
