Default air conditioning question

do any of the yb powered cars come with air conditioning? i was wondering if maybe the sapphires or escoses did and if it would be feasible to retro fit the A/C parts to a mk1 3 door? has anyone tried this before?

4wd sapphys could certainly be got with air con, as could escys.
I have done 1 mk1 sierra air con conversion but the hardest bit was accurately cutting hole in bulhead, everything else dead easy.
As you are on the other side of the pond you will have no trouble at all, though a universal kit would be cheaper for you ?

i'm more concerned about parts fitting on the car like they should rather thana cheaper universal solution. such as correct brackets for the compressor and such. i have a merkur here with a complete ac system that i can rape of parts. so that would make fitting the air box under the dash pretty easy and i would have a way of measuring any hole to be cut accurately. main thing i think is the compressor and bracket to mount to the yb. are they readily available?

The YB is only a 2 litre pinto bottom end so any US spec cars fitted with pinto engines would be suitable donors. I believe the Merkur had a 2.3 pinto in it.

There were early saffs retro fitted with Ford kits and the later 4x4 came with a/c as a factory option

yes the 2.3 is a modified 2.0 block. however our ac compressors are right where the alternator sits on the cossies.
