Default what turbo?

hi there basically my engine was built to the same spec as a rally engine and the turbo the same. its an md240. ive searched this and it should flow enough for 450hp but the back housing externally is the same as a t28 escos! the engines are obviously built for quick spool up time but no top end power?? as it was on full boost (36psi) by3000 rpm. i want to use it for drag racing i hope

it high comp, think 9.1 : 1, massive custom cams, inlet more than exhaust, isky springs, lots of head work- massive inlet ports, think thats all you need to know. what spec turbo should i go for as i want to change.

If the engine and turbo have been built to complement each other, should you really be changing the turbo? But, don't take my word for it.

What power are you after bud? Who are you going to give it to for mapping? I would ask them what they reccomend.

With that 9.1:1 CR, you can forget drag racing.

Default comp ratio

i always thought to run big power high boost cossies you needed a lower comp ratio ?

Yep way too high at this, the amount of boost you could run would be tiny, before det.

Yes, i agree, but rally cars use a high compression ratio so how does this work?

torque of the devil i think, and im moveing onto either a second hand pectel or omex 710 just so i can mess with the water inj control and launch etc - (not the map itself lol)

the engine was built and then the turbo specced afterwards. road and rally who built it said if you bolted a set of twin 50's on it would make 250bhp?!

the back housing just seems too small. it can het loads of air in thru the big front housing, big head and cams but surely restricted thru the turbo. motorsport said it should be around 450hp 500lbs torque when they mapped it but i think this is too high really

100% sure yeah, it had a 40psi guage was on air injectors and with them un plugged it did 30psi. it never went on the rollers thats why im a bit jubious at what motorsport claimed it was. it was my mates car before i bought it n re built it

end of day with turbo situation should i just get it mapped as it is and if the mapper (torque of the devil) says there will be good gains from a turbo swap then go for it then remap again?

9.1:1 is not high!!! Simon Norris built a YB with comp a bit higher than this that engine ran custom cams etc and a GT30 or 35 it made 632 bhp

Same with JEMS big power yb, build a n/a motor as well as possible then turbo it

With the flow of these turbos being greater and less restrictive heat it not too much of an issue so more comp can be used to create more power!!!!

IMO yes the 2wd manifold

Chris knows his stuff

So, not meaning to hijack this thread, on my standard CR bottom end, how do I go above 400bhp?

Nothing wrong with Higher compression imo. Some people hate it but if you use Proper engine management and get it mapped correctly you shouldnt have a problem.

TurboShed Have a word with PJ motorsport i think they mapped Dave4x4 Escort, thats running a T4 on standard compression.

Most of the engine advances have been in electronics and turbos hence all the big powered cars about now,the engine specs are still old but the management has had a kick up the arse...

It all gose back to basic's (flow) in quick out quick and a quick ecu to cope with it all
