focus engine swop
i have a focus 1.6 and want to swop the engine for a 2.0 so that i can turbo the car. can anyone help i was going to turbo the st170 engine i have. but pumaspeed said not to bother as it s to hard to do and that i would have to stipe the whole car and start again. so thats why i want to turbo a 2.0 (anyone want a st170 engine and everything to do the job out of a 52 plate with 17000 miles on the clock)i need turbo power

start by asking a reputable tuner
st170 are easy conversions if you have the key looms and ecu you could do it yourself as everything is plug and play
you do need to change fuel tank looms and other bits but i wouldnt say its a difficult conversion

read performance ford. one of the writers has an st170 turbo. It is possible.
The only difficulty is the management of it all. You can't use the focus ECU as its not ready for turbo charging. I don't think it has the capability to monitor the Manifold pressure and other sensors need for turbo charging. The options are aftermarket ECUs like autronic or motec etc, or you could find a turbo charged car and use the ECU from that car as long as you've got the software.
Have a word to another tuner. Pumaspeed aren't the be all and end all so to speak.

Try Pumabuild mate, they have fitted FRS engines in all manner of things like Pumas and Fiesta's.
I know it's not an ST170 lump, but cost wise it 'may' be a more effective option as they provide a drive in drive out service.
If you wanna stick with the ST lump, your gonna want to spak to someone like Ian at Area6, or I 'think' Power Engineering have done a turbo ST engine... With that engine you're gonna have to have to bin the VVT the inlet manifold, obviously you'll need different pistons (forged low comp) and an aftermarket ECU...
Actually, also try Jamie at Jamsport, i'm 99% certain they are putting an ST lump in the Blue Jamsport car, and they are main dealers for 2 o 3 different aftermarket ECU's.
Hope that helps

If the vvt is gonna be binned then theres no advantage using an ST170 engine over a normal blacktop zetec. You may even be able to use the variable inlet manifold. But ideally if your gonna turbo it, you want an ECU that will drive the variable intake cam

Sparker... Fair play mate, everything i've read says you can't run the VVT with a turbo application. which is why I sorta said that it was maybe a cheaper option to go for the FRS engine.
I know of people who have built ST turbo's so they are (do)able, I was just pointing out it wasn't the cheapest option.
As for why people would choose the ST over the standard 2ltr Blacktop, I understand that although the ST lump is basically a revised Blacktop it has many uprated specs...
have a read of this > http://www.mwstewart.co.uk/cars/duratecvvt/ it's very informative
