What sort of revs are you having to change down at and at what point in the rev range do you feel the boost ?

under 2000 maybe 1500 for changing down and feeling a bit of boost 3200 to 3500 but no real pull and having to change down on the motorway in 5th to 4th at about 80mph just to pick up some speed

That doesn't sound right to me, I have a TDCI Sport and it pulls from about 1700 - 1800 RPM right up to and into the red and from 80 in 5th it should be pulling well. Could be a few things but you could check and may be clean the EGR valve if it needs it and also check the movement of the variable vane actuator, I've just put a new Turbo control solenoid on mine and the difference is amazing, have you had it checked for fault codes ?

I have the same car - Focus Tdci Sport 2004 115ps,

Mine too seems to be low down on power sometimes, well MOST of the time, sometimes it pirks up and behaves properly!

It pulls hard and powerfull then at random points on the rev range it'll tail right off boost.

Sometimes the pull just is'nt there at all.

It's like it has strong boost then backs off,

any idea's anyone? it's a shame cos I really like the car!

Try disconecting the maf sensor, and then take it for a spin. Mine was sluggish until it came on boost.
With the maf unplugged it came alive so must of been giving a false reading when connected. I bought a new 1 from ford and its been fine since and pulls well through the rev range.
It was about 120 quid tho

Simply pull the pipe off or unplug it?

Tested egr valve was fine, unplugged maf ,no difference, made plate and blanket off top of turbo don't no what is called but that didn't work either, turned engine on and see movement in the actuator, wondering if it's weak or no holding or the turbo is gone but not smoking in any way and can feel some boost at top end of the rev range or on light throttle ,any ideas, will an manual actuator work on these, could nick some of the cozys that are not going at the mo lol
