s2 still rattle from rome
hi guys,
it is one year that I try to solve a knock problem at low revs.
I rebuilt the engine 3 times because of a faulty set of rings, from that moment when the engine is hot starts to knock at low revs for a short time, but as soon as the boost starts to rise the noise disappears. I mounted a wideband to monitor afr:
idle 14:00
cruise 14.5
boost wot 12.5
I think it is correct?
I tried to retard the timing to 6 degrees but nothing.
I'm going crazy.
any suggestions?

Does the waste gate actuator have a little preload. My car had a rattle years ago that was caused by no tension on the waste gate.
Could be barking up the wrong tree, but its free to check.

the actuator is new, it was replaced because the old one had become soft and i was only 0.3 psi of boost.
when I replaced the actuator I have given the usual half-hole preload.
can it be a turbo problem?

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Tony read my thoughts, I was thinking small ends.. I had a Carlos saint Celica turbo do the same thing. Also blew up an old 1.3 fiat uno turbo tho way, buggered conrod small ends..same noise.
Marino, non ci crederai, sono Passato ieri pomeriggio proprio li davanti sulla Prenestina! Stavo andando a Castelverde per un colloquio per la mia ragazza.. Caxxo se il mondo è piccolo.
Appena mi sono liberato un po del lavoro ci possiamo incontrare certo, ho l'impressione che tu sei uno dei pochissimi proprietari del Escort rs turbo..

bad thing,i will have to remove the engine again. that s**ks
the problem is the head: it was skimmed 3 times and and i think that skim the head one more time will raise the CR too much.
