89 spec S2....stereo wiring
Hello all,
After owning my S2 for a year I have decided to strip the interior and give her a deep clean and make sure the electrics and wiring is all ok. I have swapped both front and rear speakers for Pioneers - all of the speaker wires were still inplace and intact so made good the new connections, cleaned the pods and replaced everything. These are all working well as connected to the sony cd unit that was in the car when I got her, I have now got a genuine ford radio cassette that I'm going to put in to get back to standard but this is where I have come unstuck.
The speaker wires are all coded and I have seen a multi plug (8 wires) on eBay with the matching colour wires so I can splice this to the wires I have (Ford loom) so no problem, the trouble is on my other loom in the car for the stereo power etc I cannot seem to find a plug (7 wires) that matches the same colours as are on my loom (Ford again), these are coloured as follows on my Ford loom and connected to the current cd in brackets;
Ford Brown - (sony cd black - assume this is an earth wire)
Ford Red - (sony cd yellow - assume this is continious live)
Ford Yellow - (sony cd red - assume this is live when ignition switched on)
Ford Yellow with grey strip - not connected and no idea what its for?
Ford Red with white stripe - not connected and no idea what its for?
So my 2nd loom has 5 wires not 7 as per the 2nd muti plug so my plan is to just get any 7 pin multi plug that will fit and connect the 5 wires I have if anyone can help with either photos of this plug in the back of a ford stereo or info as to what colour wire goes to which pin on the muti plug - eg from top to bottom etc
Thanks,
Daz

grey with yellow stripe is for "lights on" circuit
red/white goes to the boot lid mounted aerial amplifier,
red yellow and brown are as you have already said

Looms in car are standard but the original multi plugs have been removed and the wires spliced into the sony plug and wires that came with the stereo, all I want to do is put a standard ford radio cassette back in......I have no probs with getting the multiplugs as there are plenty on ebay, the 8 pin plug is no problem as its for speakers so can work it out.
My problem is for the 5 wires in my car loom I have no idea which wire should go to which pin on the 7 pin multiplug - once I can find out which wire goes to which pin I can reconnect and plug into the stereo.

does your stereo require 2 plugs of similar size, 1 for power 1 for speakers ?
try to find whiskey he broke a motor and saved the stereo loom from a late mk4,
some mk3 fiesta`s use the same kinda 2 similar plug set up and early mk5 escort
I`m guessing you have a sound 2000 keycode unit,
or is it the same shape as ebay item 141 542 914 540

Yes m8....Sound 2000 with key code, it needs 2 multi plugs 1 with 8 pins and 1 with 7 pins.
Plenty of these on ebay and the 8 pin plug is no problem as its the speaker connections, the 7 pin plug is where I'm struggling as the ones on ebay don't have the same colour wires as I have on my loom so need advice on which wire needs splicing to which pin....from say top to bottom, also my loom has 5 wires so 2 of the pins need to be blank....my wire colours are in my 1st post.

top 2 bottom
red , blank , yellow ,grey/yellow , blank , brown , red/white
throw an earth to number 2 if unit doesn`t light up when you switch your lights on
original fuse is 4amp if bladed , and if round its 3.15

Just wanted to add, I've gone back to the standard stereo after binning of the Sony one. My wiring has been cut back to the main car loom. I cant remember what the memory live wire is. I thought it was the yellow one?
Each time I turn the key over the stereo requests the keycode every time.
Im sure the main loom to stereo loom is
Red wire to yellow wire(the cars red permanent live to the stereo yellow, memory live-switched?)
yellow wire to red wire(the cars switched wire, to the stereo red permanent wire) So when the key is removed the stereo doesn't require the keycode every time.
I can't find the yellow/grey wire in the main loom so i've had to wire it to the switched live. I wonder if I can use the cigar lighter bezel bulb wiring instead assuming they had lighting cigar bezel as standard.
I dont use the red/white wire as I've binned of the wiring in the bootlid in favour of a amplified aerial mounted under the dash(de-wipered bootlid)

yes the grey yellow wire can be fed from the ciggy bulb feed , or splice a feed for this from fog, or screen switches in the dash surround , or the left stalk, , ford red to sony permanent
