Default rs keeps going lean on the co 0.6%

Hello

My car is MFI, has been set up a few times and every time i fixed a leak and changed a gasket etc the mixture went rich, i knew this because the fuel economy went terrible. Now all the leaks seals etc were sorted and been setup by Jano who's done a great job.

Went to a garage the other day to see if all was ok on the emissions tester and it read 0.6% Co. So it has dropped. It was set at 2.7% by Jano

It still drives fine, the spark plugs were white, really white when i took them all out to look at.

Ive looked at some old MOT's from previous owners that came with the car, it says the same figure 0.6%

Whats causing this to happen? first it would go rich using all my fuel, now its great on fuel i.e. 290 miles on a fuel tank. The haynes manual says 0.6% - 1.1%

Totally standard car, no mods, normal psi, all original. set up by Jano who knows the car well.

Is the metering unit doing its own thing, could it be the fuel pump not pressurising.

Sounds like the metering unit (probably the EMFPA) is goosed, drifting out of calibration, perfectly normal this far into it's life.... very dangerous as it's going lean.

Also just a side note, the fueling should be set using a wideband lambda at full load WOT not a CO meter a idle, setting the idle CO does not guarantee it's fueling correctly on boost, by doing that you are assuming that the whole system is working correctly which is a big risk with these 25 year old fueling systems!

Replace the EMFPA (or whole metering unit for a known good one if you can) and get it setup properly.

the co adjustment just looks after the fuelling from idle to off boost doesn't it? I thought the empfa took care of the on boost fuelling? anyway I change the metering head and have a setup. its not woerth a melted engine just to guess

hello fellas
right ok looks like i need to get it looked at, a metering unit thats decent will be hard to come by, most i see on ebay will be other people selling that have tried the exact same thing.
is there no way to maybe take it apart and clean the mixture screw maybe its lost a thread thats why its doing it own thing twisting back up?

You still have no idea what it's fueling on boost which is the most important thing, don't worry about the idle CO, you'll never destroy your engine at idle! lol
Get the full load WOT fueling checked and go from there, if it's lean at idle and also lean on boost you driving a ticking time bomb.
