Default lost interest in the escort

Started to strip my escort as i was going to do an underbody treatment on it but stripped the rear end off completely and sold some engine parts as i was also going to go gt30 and 500 bhp and now i carnt be asked, i started to lose interest in the car after winning concours with it in 2006, didnt use it much in 2007 ( took it out twice ) and this year it hasnt left the garage unless you count the parts that i have sold, so the question is this do i use the engine and diffs ect to build a nice focus 4 x 4 which i can use and track or do i carry on with this and end up with a car so mint i wont want to use it ? next question is what is a mint and i mean mint escort shell worth ? these days or would i be better off getting a saff 4 x 4 that has a crap shell and putting the running gear from it in to my escort only problem for me with that idea is i havent got the space to do it, or shall i just carry on and build one of the best escorts about and then not use it lol

cheers
dunc

I cant believe how many people seem to be losing intrest in their escos especially you Dunc with one of the best out there

That's the reason i have decided not to do a resto on my inderside though because i know i will use it even less than i do already.

Yeah, I see your point, mint car but only hides in the shed! Break the mold, build up a right weapon and drive it! It's what they're for, i'm guessing you bought it for the driving not for the buffing! It's a shame to spend so much time and $$$ only to sell it for next to nowt so use it like Henry would have wanted!

i love doing track days ect and i know i wont do one in the escort just incase and on the other hand it has all the right parts to do it, was going to do concours again but what is the point of having a 500 bhp escort with all the right bits on it just to clean it and drive it slowly to a show and back and hope it dont rain on the way, been thinking about stripping the seats out ect and just tracking it as at least that way i will get to injoy the car and as long as i dont bin it i could allways get it resprayed but just about evey one has said that i carnt track such a nice escort

Duncan,

build it back up,get another engine etc...so you can keep the good one then sell it.

you can then get a cheap car for the track to put your engine in etc...

is the track bug better than the concours bug.

yes dave the track bug is better fun, but i did quite a bit of track befor i got the cossy as i had a 4 x 4 gartract escort befor and tracked that as much as i could, "build it back up,get another engine etc...so you can keep the good one" if i do that dave i will build a focus up

just saves you selling the escort in bits and as a car with no engine etc....

but....you might get good money and it will save you a lot of hassle.

good luck mate with whatever you choose.

I would build it back up and do a few track days in it, at the end of the day it can always be stripped down and cleaned again.
You have said the engine is built for it, why not use it, you could always use the focus in the rain and save the escort for the summer track days.

Hi mate, sorry to hear your have lost all interest dude, as its a cracking motor you have there, why dont you just replace the bits you have just sold, so then the car is back to the first class standard it was. Then sell her mate and buy yourself an Escos track toy to enjoy. Mark

I'd return it to near standard or as much as you can without spending a fortune. Then you'll have a good standard car that you can show & use the modded parts on a track car or to help fund a track car thats already done. No point having 500BHP & all the bits that have to go with it & not using it.

just going to carry on using the focus again this year(like last year) as i injoy tracking that and see what happenes with the escort, if it stays in the garage in bits for the rest of the year then so what, if someone wants to buy a mint shell then i might let it go, i just dont know at the moment but i think i will just forget about it and leave it and see if my interest comes back for it

Duncan,
I agree with the others, if your not going to get the fun factor your wanting then sell it!

Im in the same boat....Wanted a usable cossie, then started to make like my last two, and now loosing interest! BUT if i keep it ...IM USING IT! what the hell!

Its a shame if you break it, but a track Focus would be great!

Whats wrong with building it the way you want it and use it for what the car was made for ??? i done an underbody resto on mine and since its been finished ive been out in it the whole time... dont see the point in spending huge money on the best of everything and then leave it in a bubble or in a shed for the rest of its life... i take it you wont use it in the rain so alls thats gonna happen is a couple of chips to the paint that no one will ever see and abit of dust underneath... not the end of the world in my eyes

nice one mate think my problem is that i am a bit down at the moment and i need to give myself a good talking to, get back in that garage and finish what i have started, because if i dont then i think it will end up all sold in bits as the year goes on

At the end of the day if its something that you dont want rain, dirt and stone chips on,sell it and buy a really good kitchen or something...........

OR,you could use it for what its meant for,ie,driveing and enjoying,Its a car after all.

Hi duncan ive got the same problem really the car is really clean so dont
use it much well hardly ever ,i had taken the rear beam off and started
the big clean up underneath and the misses pops in the garage with a
brew and handed me the biggest bollockin in my life sayin that the car
doesnt go out now as it is, so i left it as it was for a few days and then
put the thing back together as i no i just wudnt use it at all
so do i sell or keep and just use it dont no what to do its been like
this for a while now

dunc, put it back together and use it! keep it clean but get some use out of it.the only way you will enjoy a car like that is use.it is a lovely mint car to start with so it wont be hard to keep clean.
tbh ive just spent all my money on buying mine and ive used it 4 times due to needing a good sortingout as its not running right yet,and the rain .but when she is sorted i will use her.ok not in the wet as i dont want her rotting away.but im not shy on using the ponies when it is out.

mines clean but not mint,so its not too scarey if i get a chip on it(although not good)

i'm in the same boat mate, just got the car back from getting a full respray and ive
lost all interest in it, been thinkin about selling for a couple of weeks now.

took it to a show a couple of weeks ago and was bored after half n hour.

been thinking about getting a nice usable fast car which i woulod use everyday if i wanted without worrying about where it's parked or of it gets a few stone chips

Tbh thats why i never went down the bufty route. I started with the saph then decided it was not for me.

I was going to have the escos fully resprayed but i will just worry about the paint, so spent the money on mods instead.

I can now cane it around and not worry about it, if i get a stone chip out comes the t-cut black.....

i would have it, but still drive it like i drive my 3dr, granted i dont take mine out in the wet, but it gets used.

took it too germany a few weeks ago, no a single stone chip from the event, apart from one on the screen, took 3 days to clean it back to how it was.

Oddly enough concours cars are generally the best cars to drive, as there gernally low mileage example, and everything has been changed, so they drive superbly.

well mine does, and im sure yours does aswell.

Get out there and use it!

Duncan,

If you are not doing bufftying this year then why not stick it on track and use it anyway?

You then have winter to sort out any stone chips that you WILL have got when on track. Your car is absolutley spotless mate and i wish i could get mine to that state, but then i
just love driving mine like it was meant for! Cant beat a track day in an escos! Personally i think you need to get out there and use the car again and ENJOY driving it, this will then get your passion and motivation back for working on it.

Cheers

John.

If you are going to just plough tons of money into a car that never moves, you would be better off putting it into property

been thinking alot about it today with my lad and we both decided that i need to finish what i have started so that means gt30 ect and 500bhp and clean up so once it done i could concours it if i want but i am going to use it and might go back out on track with it again, thinking about putting my focus back to standard and selling the bits and then selling the car in march next year as by then the escort will be ready to use and if i havent got the focus then i will have to use the escort, dont really want to sell the focus but thats the main reason why i dont use the escort any more and if i regret selling the focus i can easy buy another but i carnt say the same about my escort

ps mike thanks for the great addvise lol, plus no i dont use water to clean the car unless i need to as water just makes more work and yes concours can be hard work and gay at times but i am glad i did it for a year and won the gold cup

Dunc use the car like it was built for

i use my imperial blue escos every day and it has had the underside prepped to concours standard its only running 380bhp but no matter what the weather i use it as thats what i bought it for
since i got it in october last year the underneath hasnt deteriated i just give it a quick wash of with the jet wash to make sure there is no salt underneath
use it and enjoy it as if you sold it you will only regret it at a later date
