Building a Escos...
Hi people,
Ive been thinking about buying an Escort Cosworth for a while now but i just cant justify the £10,000-£20,000 Prices to pay in one hit!
I found an RS breakers in Portsmouth that sell shells, engines, transmissions just everything. Not forgetting ebay, ford shows and Passionford of course! I recon i could buy a shell and then slowly build my own escos over a period of time.
What i want to know is
1. Has anyone here already done this?
2. Will the car be worth a lot less when its time to sell it?
3. Anything else you think i should know before starting such a thing?
Your help will be much appreciated (sp)
Thanks peeps

if you want to do it properly (with all esco'cos bits) it will cost a LOT more than say 12k for a cheap whole one....
A decent shell has got be be 5 k, depending whats on it, interior can add another k on... - you can see where this is going....
If you want one, instead of buying bits, just set up a savings account, and wait - you will get a better car, that will be easier to re-sell in the future...

think your fighting a losing cause here chap, IMO the logical thing would be buy a high milage one needing a rebuild and buy it for 8-9k ....
only way to do it cheap, building your own will cost loads more, remember nuts, bolts clips etc all adds up

No way will you ever get original money for it when done if you sell so you lose a lot.Even if you built a car with brand new ford bits a complete car it just won't fetch as a high a price as an orignal factory one weird but true.

I was going to do exactly what you were going to do mate, but it's just a DAFT idea when you add the costs up..... A decent shell with a clean ID is 4k min, engine 3k for a goodun, gearbox 350, diffs 250 , blah blah blah, just buy one whole mate, so much cheaper in the long run.
If you still want to build a shell, double your budget and add 3k
