Escort Cosworth Replica Info..
Right this is my first post so go steady lol
I have a ford fiesta si 1.6 at the moment, its my first car (when i start to drive) and im already thinking of selling it after a few months of driving and getting a Escort Cosworth Replica.
Now i dont want some half arsed replica i want a near enough perfect copy bar the engine (id get the real on if i could insure it)
So in your expert opinions etc whats the best base model to get a replica in, so its the most cossi like.
Ive seen these as ideas
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...3831&rd=1&rd=1
that one is spot on for me, id like something like this, what price do they go for?
Or a cheaper one like this and ill finsh of the crap bits myself. Like remove the crappy stripe and sort the interior.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...4924&rd=1&rd=1
Any help/info/opinions will be spot on

Top one looks better, but the bottom one does have potential with a few ŁŁŁ spent on it. Looks like the door cards have been sprayed blue!!
Top one just needs a proper cosworth interior and proper escos/rs2000 headlights and sidelights to finish.

yes obviously the 2nd one isnt as good, the 1stone is the db's but will obviously go for more.
the 2nd one isnt bad considering the wheels go for about 400ish on the bay.
id obviously remove the stripe and finish the rest of myself.
who has replicas on here?
whats the best engine to go for? Something like a 1.8/2.0 zetec of a turbo'd engine so its more cossi like?

you say wots the best base model to get one in,i dont spose it matters too much as long as its been done nice, personally id have to get one that was based on an rs2000,least you can say its still an rs
as long as you can insure one? otherwise will have to be a standard jobby for low insurance.

Not too keen on reps meself, I personally waited untill i could get the real mccoy, but if your willing to spend moeny then go for it..
I would say the 2nd looks better and more believe, for some reason im not sure of, just remove the stripes as you said you would and get the full cloth interior and pop out windows and you'd have a gooden.
Bear in mind, if you are willing to have a good one and look after it, i presume you will tell your insurance company about the mods, which will prob bump your insurance up up alot still.
Good luck with it tho.

A cautionary tale for you! I looked at doing a replica about 8 years ago when the first kit came about with Carlton Autos.
Only problem was when I called the insurance for a quote, as soon as I mentioned it was a full copy, they asked me for the value. They then said the same value would be the insurance quote!
I asked why and his words were "if it looks like one, it'll get stolen like one, and we don't expect you do have it by the end of the year!!". I'll never forget that!
Cosworths have lost their limelight appeal since then, and the scum of society have focused more on the Subarus now so its likely that the insurance will be much cheaper, but I wouldn't expect it to be similar value to that of a standard 1.6.
Just to be aware that its worth calling around for insurance now to get some quotes. If it isn't all declared, it isn't insured.
I still check the replicas every week though on ebay! hehe. The red one is excellent IMO, just needs the lights as mentioned already.
The other one needs the interior tidying up, but the exterior looks pretty good.
I'd definately have a good look at both, and make sure they are as good in the flesh as on the photos.
Good luck mate!

i know the kit thats used as i'm buying the same kit, it is the best kit available but its not genuine.
the kit has complete bolt on front arches instead of the half size bond on crap that fits over you orig wings, and the rears are full bond on arches that meet the spoiler sides at the correct height. it is a very good replica.
no-one makes a metal version of the kit.
and yeah the genuine front wings dont fit well like you describe.
