Newbie saying hello!
Hi all,
Not sure if I'm posting in the right section, but couldn't find the newbie section on the menu.
I found this forum after a recommendation, and thought I'd say hi. I currently drive a Porsche Boxster and am hoping to purchase an Escort Cosworth next year, subject to finances allowing. I've been wanting one since they came out 14 years ago, and think its probably time I bought one before I get to old (I'm 29 now!).
In the meantime, I'll be swatting up on what to look for as I'm sure there are a lot of thrashed and crashed cars out there! Ideally I'd like a standard one in red (of which there doesn't seem to be many!).
A few questions if I may;
Whats the best place to go to get buying guides? I'm sure there is plenty of info on here - is there a difinitive checklist available as a post somewhere? It might be in the Gold section, as I can't access this area yet...
I've got plenty of mags from the past showing small buying guides etc, but are there any specialists you'd recommend taking along to perform an inspection if/when I find one I'm interested in?
Thanks all, looking forward to reading the heaps of information on this forum!
Paul.

Loooks nice mate manual or auto? leather?
To be fair, if you haven't already, you need to get yer arse in a stage III ECos (330ish BHP Large Turbo)
You wont believe how quick they are in comparison... It will eat a Boxster S (In a straight line )

Not too fussy on the big/small turbo as long as its the right price and colour. I guess the newer the better, but I think this is actually of little consequence with a car such as this - I would imagine that the quality of the product is more important rather than the age.
I kinda like the idea of huge lag and then an enormous thump of the large turbo though
I'll keep Auto Unlimited in mind for when I come to start looking next year. Looking at his previous sales, he's had some lovely ones in!! Thanks for the tip.

Suprisingly, I've not actually been in a Cosworth yet, I don't want to get in one until I've got the funds as I'm sure I'll be wanting to buy straight away. hehe!
I used to have a MK5 Escort "S" many moons ago. I had it at the time the first Cosworth replica kits came out and was tempted to have it all kitted up until the insurance quote came through
I'll probably go for a standard one where possible though to save the time on the phone with the insurance companies, but wouldn't mind a go in a modified one! Any offers....?!

You can be a passenger in mine when the better weather comes back mate good colour choice as preference too
Also check junction 28 out. Auto trader have a lot on there website. I spent 6 months looking round everywhere. You will probably look at a lot of cars before you find the right one.

Welcome mate-my preference would be the large turbo as I'm sure after you buy it and have driven it for a while you will crave more power, to achieve 330bhp isn't much money and as Damo says above it creates a very fast useable road car.
Definately try Duncan at Automotive and John Taylor (see the RS Owners Club site for details of John).
Good luck mate
