Concours cars........
Are concours cars totally chip free? Ive been to a few shows before a while ago but never really had a close look to be honest.
The reason i ask is because i have a small chip on my front wing edge and a couple of very minor ones on the bottom of my front bumper, hardly noticable but i know there there. I may have the bumper painted but i cant warrent having the wing done for one minor chip. I dont expect to win anything on my first go obviously but i want it to be the best i can naturally.
How would the point scoring work for these bits? Would it be deductions per chip or per panal? Or am i looking too far into it.
Im a bit in the dark on the whole point scoring system for concours to be honest.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

After looking at the concours cars this year, (to see how the competition looked for next year lol), i wasnt that impressed with some of the bodywork/condition of the escorts So this cant seem to put the judges off......................for some reason
Now without being big headed, mine is absolutely mint...................a couple of tiny chips on the bumper but then it never gets used!!
As long as it is spotlessly clean.............Everywhere.............dont worry about it

Ive heard a few saying theyve seen a few rough looking ones in concours. I mean its probably me being picky again, as everyone thinks im mad to even consider having the bumper re-sprayed for a one or two minor chips, as it will only pick up a few more soon enough driving to shows etc.
Think im going to leave it anyway and just touch the small one in on the front wing edge. The car is pretty much faultless other than that in my opinion, although im sure the judges will find something.
Cheers

Hello mate , I am getting my bonnet done as it has chips on the leading edge and it always winds me up, I believe unless your doing the top class in concours as Nick says above it's based on how clean it is more than anything else-this is what I am basing my work on- I hope I'm right
I will be taping up the front when I go next year as I am fed up having the bonnet done every few years

it all depends really,
IMO it is how clean the car is - age related wear and tear IMO are ok as they are sypathetic to the age, any damage or rot should be dealt with though.
i won 3rd place a few years back at ford fair in my 4x4 saph, 1st and second places went to the guys who at the time won every standard classs cosworth concourse - they turned up with them on trailers with d40 tyres etc, literally ornaments, at least mine was driven there and was driven every day to work, and i still came 3rd - was damn hard work though getting it prepared - remember i had a a few guys come up asking how the hell did i dare drive it in for fear of getting it dirty - to which i replied, you should see it every day - it goes down a 1 mile sand/mud track and back - it was just i'd taken it off the road for 1 week to prepare it - made me feel good inside though knowing that i was the best therother than the trophy boys.... but that was back when i didnt have my own house, was nt getting married and had a lot more free time on my hands -

To be honest i always thought they'd be completly chip free hence the post, but it seems most, and even soem of the best, have one or two here and there so i think ill leave it and see what happens.
Radman, yes i have a couple on the front skirt section, but my rear bumper bottoms and lips are suprisingly good.
Mat, think ill be getting the masking tape out too mate!!! Mines never been on a motorway for 6 years.
dave, have you done concours in the escort?

Well i won my concours group this year and my paint is in pretty good nice but it does have a few little chips here and there and some off them where picked up going to and from the shows, if i was you i whould make shure the bumper, bonnet are chip free or very close to it and then as for the rest as long as there is nothing that jumps out at you when looking round the car you should be ok.
As you will lose points for chips ect and if you have them and the others dont well you will be marked down.
