Changing the water pump at the same time as the cam belt on YB?
The reason I ask is that nobody has tried to flog me one on previous belt changes...... seems odd.

 

It's not run off the cambelt so no need

 

What drives the water pump then? An auxillary belt?

 

Yeh the 2 belts the go from the crank to the alternator to the water pump and back to the crack. Or less you run a poly v belt.

4x4 water pumps are a fortune.

Is yours a 4x4. I got one that was listed as a escort cossie and it was a 2wd cossie pump which is the same as a standard pinto.

I paid 105 quid for mine from msd.

 

Yeh, mines a 4x4. The pump has never been changed according to the service history, is it worth changing with the cam belt?

 

Check the condition of it, tbh I would anyway due to the age of it as it won't need changing again for a while

 

A water pump isnt a set mileage or set time automatically change item, if it is working ok with no bearing noise there is no need to change it. I have had my 2wd for 21 years and it would have been costly to change the water pump every time I have had a new cam belt.
I think you are being over cautious but at the end of the day its your car so its up to you.

 

I don't think there the right ones, there bloody expensive to buy for the 4x4, I managed to get a second hand one that had done 300 miles but still had to fork out £50 including postage. If it's not leaking or bearings noisy/play then I'd leave it well alone. Obviously up to u at the end of the day matey its your car. My one did 64,000 miles before it needed changing lol
