tyre size/brand choice 16's
alrighty, the yoko a539's are getting pretty worn now and to be fair are pretty rubbish anyway.
this is for my ZT xr2, so grip is essential and cost is a factor as always.
my choices of size are limited, but i'm on 195/45R16 at the moment and clearance is ok, looking at 215/40R16 it seems the circumference is a tiny bit smaller which is fine, just how do fwd cars drive with these, will steering be significantly heavier and is it worth the extra 20mm width?
also which brands as this is fast road and hopefully a bit of track action, i definitely can't go bigger than the current tyres due to arches and inner wings.
so tips on choice welcome.
thanks
sean

I use Toyo Proxes R1R tyres. The size i have on my Escort are 205/45R16.
They grip really well, Loads better than the Goodyear Eagle F1s i had before.
They are £130 eatch from Camskill.

This is how they look on a 16" Mondeo alloy

i have the same as ollie on the front on mine, really happy with them in all weather on the road. 140 treadwear rating i think so wont last very long if you drive like a loon!
they are no way better than r888s tho but at least you can drive in the rain with a bit more confidence! r1r's are just a good all rounder

Competition Technology
KUMO all weather on Z rating with extra load or Pirelli P-ZERO, im using KUMO At the moment fucking brilliant grip in wet and in the dry, the P-ZERO NERO tyres are the best ive ever used with brilliant ware and traction all round but they were on my jag not on my escort.
I recommend KUMO Z rated, they arent cheap though

hmmm, plenty of food for thought, the t1r's are ok, but nothing special, used them a few times, but i doubt they'd be fantastic with the zetec turbo engine. in the xr2.
r1r's are nice, bit too soft, but i'm after nothing bigger diameter-wise than the 195/45's already fitted due to clearance issues, smaller is acceptable though.
888's are out of the question due to profile and cost, plus it's a road car after all.
p zero nero are an option and come in a good range of profiles.
my wheels are Rota competition on 7j, the 195/45's look a little stretched, so assume wider would be fine, even up to 215, but not seen a pic of that profile on a rim to see if they look daft.
