no cos it uses the oil as a bearing - with no oil presure, it would be metal on metal at very high speed - = fooked torbo straight away - it would do teh shaft and the bushes - DO NOT DO IT,

a turbo service kit is only 40-50quid. with new bushed and sels - and is not too bad of a job to do yuoself..

I was adviced by some turbo expert here to do it. You block the turbo rotating part completly, disconnect feed (connect it into drain pipe) and open actuator. Then you can check if it smokes.

never heard of that, and it cant damage it, if not spinning at all.

found that my skoke is caused by a blocked breather -

as a few of u know, mine is a poorly car at the moment - and it only stops smoking when hot -
ive found this is now doen th the breather blocked with mayo due to water ingress throug no 2 cylinder - i blew the lines all clear with comp air yesterday and there is now no smoke

basically, with it all blocked or not functioning properly - the oils only way out frmoteh turbo is though teh back selas as it cant rutrn to teh sump due to teh pressure build up
