Default recommended gap between front mounted intercooler & rad

just ordered an alloy rad to go with my front mounted intercooler, was wondering whats the best set up with fans gaps etc,few guys have recommeded they should seated together so no air gap is possible for air to be trapped in a gap, don't mind using bonnet pins if i need to move rad forward etc

any advice appricated

best is to have a gap between the back surface of the i/c and the front surface of the rad so that the i/c does not soak up heat from the rad when you have no airflow, but to seal the gaps around the edges so that all airflow (whether from forward movement or from the fans) is forced through both heat exchangers. if you use foam, get what's known as closed cell foam that doesn't have holes all the way through.
