Default leeky water question? escort coss

hi
not 100% sure if it is the head gasket yet, as she's not running warm, is building up alot of pressure in the header tank and water wee bit foamy and dirty. water leek when stopped but unsure where it coming from, running down the front of the block and dripping from around the bottom pulley area, thinkin water pump or thermostat housing. any idea's? could it be the water pump or thermostat housing cracked? or is it the head gasket?

cheers

Hi,
If you have water leak when engine stop, and leak on bottom pulley, it is water pump rotate seal, anyway.
New pump is necessary.

Regards.

dont think it would be head gasket cos it that was the reason it wouldn't be running as good or wouldt it?

Hi,
just to be sure why not pop down to your local friendly garage and get them to do a quick pressure test. At least that will take the guess work out of it>

cossie do have a bit of a habbit of the head gasket leaking from the water jacket out down the side of the block under the turbo. maybe it has let go there and its running down round to the front....

just an idea,

if it is the pump, there shud be a little hole on the body of the pump its self, if it is the internal seal on the pump the water will be coming out of there

im probably wrong on all of the above, but it might be of some help lol

Hi,

Before take off, take a look under the front of engine.
Use a lift.
If your water pump is defective, you can see water leak easely with a strong light.

Aah good man, so if the water is dripping out of here when i stop the engine it's more than likely the water pump thats shat itself. does the car need to be run warm first? and would this cause her to foam the water up a bit?

cheers
