Default Stuttering Escort Gti

Hello peeps, got an Escort GTi (1800 Zetec 115PS). Its only done 50k and seems very well looked after. Anyway I have driven around 3k since having it. Since driving it yesterday on the motorway in the tipping rain at 80ish mph it doesn't want to rev further that 5000rpm in any gear.

I have my foot flat on the floor and it stutters and doesn't want to pull like it normally does. I'm thinking that it could be fuel starvation or a timing issue; but I don't know enough to tell. It idles fine and drives fine, but there just isn't anything right up the top of the rev range.

The only mod to the engine is a K&N air filter.

Hi Mate,
sounds like an airflow meter problem to me, have you got a mate with similar car that you can swap over with to check it out?

Mike.

My car had the same problem, turned out the cambelt had jumped a tooth and put the timing out. Fixed now.
