Default charge cooler pump

can anyone give me reasons why the mechanical fuel pump on a pinto cannot be ued as a water pump for a charge cooler.

would have thought the flow rate was higher on a chargecooler pump than a pump on a pinto engine!

My only thought would be that the power used in running the pump would be excessive for it's function.
