I got another one for you guys

Maybe somebody has suggestions or ideas that can help. The situation is the following, I am having terrible vibration at right hander conres with more then couple degrees of steering angle when going anything faster then slowly. No noticable behaviour like that on lfet handers, nothing strange on straights, stable under braking, even handles when sliding into right hander but when going round corner it shakes strongly enough for uninformed passanger to notice.

We'll be investigating into that on next days but so far I have no idea whatsoever what could taht be that would give such symptoms only on right hand corners..

Front , center or rear ?

 

my mate had a similar problem, found wheel nuts worked loose on one side.

just a thought and a quick easy check as well.

Checked that as first thing already :-( Also driveshaft nuts.

 

Vibration is a little bit weird, can't locate it really. Seams to me like inner wheels though. For me it's more like front by my mate a rallyd river says he feels it more fromt the rear.

 

Would faulty shock absorber give such symptoms? Never met with something like that, but one of the new things is AVO's...

 

That would also show in a straight line though.

Have you tried it back on standard TCA's ?

Also worth checking the steering rack where it comes through the bulkhead is fine.

 

I think so. But just about any fault I know would. We'll try to swap shocks by sides.

Don't have standard ones, bought those because mine where destroyed totally.

You mean steering column bearing in the bulkhead??? I know the failure symptoms from friend's SIerra... nothing like that :-(

 

No not the bearing - the rack. Is there any play in it ?

Inside the rack there is bearings and the one on the right may be worn ?

Really hard to diagnose over the net. All we can do is throw suggestions at you.

Are the top mounts okay / tight ? Rubber bushes sitting fine ??

Have you swapped the wheel onto the other side to see if it follows ?

 

I hadthe rack reconned maybe 1k miles ago. It's tight and almost all new now.

I know, but it helps, aybe there will be some idea I didn't think of.


They are changed for poly items, seem to be just fine. It feels just ine at all times exept just after turn in phase into a corner vibration apears.

I checked whole set of wheels and rebalanced them, it feels a little bit like flat tire but it's not wheel ralated 99,999999999%.

 

when did it start jakub? was it after any work on teh car or after driving though a hole in the road etc..?

could be front wheel bearing, remember there are 2, an inner and outer, in a left turn and in a straight line it may only be really loading one side up, but when u turn right, the faulty bearing is being loaded and showing up as a wobble...? just anohter idea

 

It was of the road since I broke front shock in a rally in June. Just got newsuspentiona nd got it all back together. Yo think bearing could cause that without making any noise?


Maybe... So I check left bearing for any play?

 

if just had same problem on a s2 rs turbo knocking was bad and getting worse no play art all in bearings etc.... but i was convinced it was a bearing so i changed the side which i thought it was coming from and hey presto it was the bearing !!!!

 

I think I have to look further into bearing thing. Never had a bearing failure without this loud train-like noise.. hmm...

 

I had this only on slight left handers (vibrating on the right hand side) , mine was the steering rack .......

 

OK, so we checked everything.


First thing we fond out was that it's transmission related. On the throttle it's MUCH stronger and as it comes on boost it becomes even stronger with g-force rasing. It's felt stronger to the back but in tunnel area. First idea was pop=shaft support bearing but it wasn't that (we changed it). Now last idea is gearbox mount. It is soft and vibration can also be felt on gearshifter. Maybe it's moving a bit too much and making pressure on prop shaft or something. I'ma currently working on getting new one....

 

inner cv joint worn - seen it loads of times

 

I got new front reinforced shafts from Tim Finch, they only did 300-600km's. So I don't think so :-/


So far we tracked it down to gearbox mount failing. Vibration is comming from the transmission tunnel, just behind the seats.
