Ok, got all the stuff i need to convert my MFI turbo to EFI, one slight problem.....NO HOLE FOR THE CTS SENSOR. Obviously because its an escort block, but one of you brain boxes out there must know somewhere else u can mount the sensor or a way of getting around it??
help me out and make me happy

It tells you on there just to drill a hole-
"The Fiesta RS also benefits from having the hole drilled in the block, to allow for the CPS. Rumour has it that late 'H' plate S2's also came with this block, so this could be used. The other option is to drill the hole yourself, which would not be overly difficult, just ensure that you get it in the right place"
Feelin Confident?

there has to be another way??
don't think what u said isnt appreciated though
just no.....not feelin overly confident, dont like making holes
HI,
are you using a efi manifold from a fiesta etc, i drilled and tapped
a whole where on the RS TURBO manifold escort, the cts would be
i used a fiesta or escort efi manifold for cosworth conversion,
will if i have time post up a diagram.
ok seen your mistake.

If you decide to drill it you will have to be accurate with the position otherwise TDC detection wil be out and therfore timing. I have a late 89 spec Escort turbo and it has the hole in the block for the sensor.
Have you considered mounting an aftermarket trigger wheel on the front pully or using a pully and position sensor off a cvh sierra?

i have seen sierra's at the local scrappy with the wheels on, and the thought crossed my mind but they have the grooved belts so i didnt think i could use one.
Has this been done before then has it?
Does the timing wheel seperate from the pulley?
cheers

you cant just drill the hole in the block coz you need the trigger on the fly wheel as well .
best way is to find an aftermarket sensor and trigger that mounts to the front crank pulley .
or drop the engine and use an e.f.i block .
sorry .

Seriously I can't always understand you British. No offense, but all this moaning over drilling a hole. Even block swap suggested instead

If you don't feel confident on your drilling skills (pressing the trigger...), then pay a fiver for someone to do it for you. Better do it properly and not mess with triger setups in the timing end of the engine.

i do have everything i need........so whats the point?
swings and roundabouts, cant understand u foreigners either, not into BODGING stuff up thanks.
Yeah.....CHANGE THE BLOCK, sounds like a good idea, considering ive just dropped the re-built engine in 3.5k ago
NICE ONE MATE glad u were here to help
Don't know what i would of done without your life saving suggestion and criticism
If any can genuinely thinks they can help then its much appreciated.....don't waste your breath if you're going to criticise

no criticsm intended !!!!
i have had to drill one before .
i made a template from a scrap block with crank hole .
then removed flywheel and marked where hole needs to be drilled . then drill hole from g/box side (it is nice, flat surface this side)
it is quite a big hole coz the crank sensor fits in a round plastic holder which i secured from flywheel side as well.
Dont forget to fit the other flywheel as well coz it has cut outs that trigger the crank sensor .
it really isnt a nice job to do , and i was lucky to have a scrap block with the sensor hole as a reference .unfortunately i binned the template.
are you sure you want to go to e.f.i.
i know its not nice to here , but i am on your side

see thats part of the problem i slugged my guts putting engine in and ill be damned if that engine/gearbox/both are coming back out anytime soon!
I know what you are saying about making it as it should be, but not very productive in my case.
yeah im definately sure, im sick to death of SH1TTY KE JETRONIC and all the air leak and running problems associated with it!!!
and the other reason....i want wastegate flutter

have a look at an 1800 cvh from a sierra to see if the pick up is on the crank pulley . if it is that should be quite straight forward to convert .
a pinto/cossie pulley has notches sticking out of it so isn't seperate . the pulley wouldn't fit on the crank.it would be also quite difficult to set the right air gap on the sensor to the pulley , and getting it in the right place could be tricky .you dont want reliabilitie to be an issue . the spark has to be spot on . one degree the wrong side and running problems may occur .
WEBCON . make management bits and pieces . mainly for zetec converted caterhams . Last time i spoke to them they did make aftermarket crank pick ups for crank pulleys . if you like i can see if i still have thir number when i get to work tomorrow.
i think an aftermarket kit may be the way to go if you dont fancy dropping the engine down again

HI,
Only way your going to get a efi setup, is to have a disc and sensor
setup from the crank pulley, some after market ecu's can use your origonaldistributor, but if your putting either cossie, or fiesta turbo, you have to run a disc as already said or use the fiesta flywheel idea,
i had my own design made by a engineering company, at the end of the day, you have to simulate the system you intend to fit in theory,
what management are you trying to fit,
DAVE R.

just upgrading to fiesta management.
i checked out the wheels omex do (only up the road
) they do a 36-1 wheel, shold be able to mount that on the pulley. Same number of teeth as the flywheel, so all should be good!

SafeChav: did you finally finish the conversion?
Did you drill the hole for the CPS, or are you using an aftermarket trigger?
Is the sensor in an aftermarket tirgger kit the same as the OEM one? So if I have one, is it enough to create/buy only the trigger plate?

Hi - home now from work - will make it out of cardboard so you can place it against the gearbox side of the block - you can then draw on the exact place to drill - with the template it will make your life alot easier to drill it in the right place - take it u do have a efi flywheel?
