Default welding gas

apart from BOC, where can i get a 2 foot bottle of argoshield for a mig welder? or do i have no choice but to go through BOC?

i have tried welding with CO2 but not enough to see how good/bad it is - i understand its possible to get a 2 foot bottle from pubs etc, and its generally more easily obtainable as apposed to argoshield.

How bad would you say using CO2 is compared to argonshield? still useable? only i have plenty of welding experience at work with argoshield, but would like to get a reasonably powerful home mig welder and maybe use CO2

opinions appreciated!

i use co2 all the time at home , and have never used anything else, argosheild does seam to give a cleaner weld but not significantly enough to justify the price differance

fantastic - anyone else opinions please !

i think the general concensus is that argoshield is better but its a pain to get hold of unless you have a friend in the trade - I am in the trade myself but dont have anyone who would get me a small bottle for home use you see

anyone else?

and another question - how long do you find the £10 bottles of CO2 last that you get from B&Q? I know you can get pub cylinders or whatever, and sometimes you can use pretty much any gas bottle as long as its safe and clearly marked with whats in it - what i hear anyways

if you have an empty bottle to start with, then your local fire extinguisher refilling company will be able to supply you with lots of Co2
