high idle on start up on mk5 rs2000

high idle on start up on mk5 rs2000
has any one come across high idle on mk5 rs 2000 at about 2.5-3k rpm on start up. i have been told that on early models this is ecu controlled for quick warm up of cat converter. shed any light on this?
