Default Escort Cosworth giving me the Hump

ok need some help here. Last Thursday had a new Concept 950 Clifford alarm fitted to the cossie. didnt get used until saturday now its loosing power in low rev's and when you go to start it it doesnt want to until you turn the key a couple of times then press the alarm and the the car shudders and it starts.

Have called the place where they fitted the alarm, cause first thought it was the imobilser and the bloke said it couldnt be that as it is not on when the car is working.

Also when you take your foot off the accelrator it slows down a little tooo quickly and jurks you all about when it powers on then power off. If you put it in nutural and rev it its ok again until you go into low gear then it starts all over again.

Sorry for the memo style post but i wondered if anyone had any idea's?

Thanks Lyns

is it a small turbo my any chance?

if so, the ecu may have lost its memory when they had the battery disconnected, you ned to relearn its drive and idle values. get it up to temp, dis connect the ecu or battery again. then reconnect after a couple of mins. start the car and let it idle for 2 mins, then raise the revs to about 1500 and hold there for a further 2 imins, then you need to drive it normally for about 5 miles so it can re learn its priving parameters

and so the tale unfolds....

if the engine has been out, its more than likely that something like the TPS, or TDC sensor has moved and needs re ajusting, or the dreaded multilpugs that copnnect the engine loom to the car loom , behind the passenger headlight, they are a favourite to go manky and coroded inside and casue all sorts of running problems, most peope (me included) have chopped these off and soldered each wire directly.

Thanks Dave, we found the problem last nite, when they fitted the new alarm they seemed to have moved the lead going to the coil and when my partner looked at it it come off in his hand. Unfortunately it was all correded so we are going to replace it with a Group (something, he did tell me but i cant remember)

Many thanks for the advice it has come in handy as i have now printed it off in case it happens again so we know where else to look.
