Hi,

My mates just bought a nice S1 Escort RS Turbo

Running 254bhp.

He had it on the track at Croft last sunday with no problems,

We then went for a drive down the M1 racing a scooby on the way (blowing it away).

A really loud knocking sound started coming from the head which went away and came back depending on how high it was revving.

Still ran ok, didnt overheat or anything, managed to get it home.

Anybody any ideas what this would be????

hydraulic tappets?? common problem with a cvh.

 

Has it got enough oil in it. If it is the followers they will rattle intermitently if the oil level is low especially when you're giving it some.

hi m8 it sounds like detonation but give us more information when it ocures what rpm?

 

Oil level was fine, didnt sound like tappets, was really loud knocking up to 2000 then would stop then come on again 4000 ish.

Big end bearings?

 

camshaft?, or worn oil pump not supplying oil
