Default Help with 3dr hatch light

I have a problem with my alarm door/hatch sensors.

I have noticed that my hatch light is constantly on but cant find the switch.

I have had the trim panel off the u/s of the hatch but cant see anything in there.

Can someone tell me what operates the hatch light?

Steve.

No its the alarm mate. When i arm it it beeps to tell me there is a door open but there isnt!

Seeing as hatch light stays on thought it might be the hatch.

Interesting about the centre display panel - will check that.

or do you mean the little one in the boot - I dont remember installing a switch for this, so assume it works off the ones by the hinges on the front doors.

If you do mean the display light then this is controlled by a little black plastic micro switch that is attached to the side of the hatch lock mechanism inside the hatch itself behind the removable panel.

steve I have exactly the same problem on my 3dr. I'm no expert on the wiring in the car, but I found the boot light to be operated by a tilt type switch found inside the boot near the lock solenoid mechanism. It's a bit tight to get to but can be reached.

Sadly mine seemed to work ok but the light was still permanently on so in the end I just took the plug off the back of the light and it seemed to cure the alarm problem. LOL

Nah think you were right first time, it will be the little micro switch on the lock/catch i reckon..... as the installer will probably have spliced into that..

just read Karls, post, maybe a broken wire between the bootlid and shell, near the hinges, it may be earthing on the body, causing a contact...

Damo, perhaps its already "fallen" out

Hatch button has always been a bit sticky - seems like a good time to get in bits on the bench.

No the alarm doesnt work on the light coming on but still activates the proximity sensors when you lift the boot lid so its still protected.

The switch is activated by a mercury tilt switch.

Its a gold coloured thing about the size of an alarm battery installed in the boot lock area.

Adjust the angle of this until it works correctly, they can be set wrongly by lowering the car, fitting hi fi etc.

Moved to tech room in 10 mins

These mercury tilt switches can also give problems in hot weather, as the mercury expands a little bridging contacts enough to trip the alarm but not enough to light a bulb, had to replace on my dads 4i for this reason, adjusted angle etc first but on a really hot day still went off.
