hiya i have just bought a escort si 1996, i was wondering if there is anything that can be done to make it run smoother. Also what can be bought to improve the 0-60 time thanks for the help dan

smoother in what way?

is it a 1.6 or a 1.8? zetecs are a biatch to get anything out of without spending bit $ on them. you could change the zorst and stick a filter on it get it chiped you might see a extra 10bhp or so out of that. all depends what you want to spend as to what results you can get.

its a 1.6. it dosent run very smooth it has 50000miles on the clock and has been owned by a old lady from new i am having the clutch changed due 2 riding it from the old lady i was wondering if there is anything can be changed to run smoother. i dont want to spend to much momey on the car because im a student thanks for your help hope to her from you soon dan

is it mainly at idle it runs rough? classic idle control valve on a zetec, likely either wants cleaning or replacing (obviously cleaning is the cheaper way!) a little more description of not running smoothly maybe would be helpfull.

sometimes when the car is travelling at constant speed it will cough but if you then just dip the clutch and rev it clears. I have changed the spark plugs but no better. i dont no if it is a ztec engine how would i no how to find that out
