Default Cossie spark plugs (again..sorry)

Just removed the plugs from my cossie to try to track down a missfire, this is plug #1

Is this normal wear or do i have a problem here?

the other three plugs looked like this

I've just ordered some 071's which I'll be putting in, but since ordering i've read posts on this forum talking about not being able to gap them. Whats the score with this?

My car is running 803 injectors with AB software and about 24 psi - what gap should i set the 071's at?

Another quick question, whats safe boost limit for this chip + injectors? Too many scooby's just too close these days

Cheers

Yes, but is it normal to 'drop off' like that ?

I'm worried that there's an underlying problem that has caused this to happen?

Default plug

Had the same on mine it had not broken but melted caused by water getting into the cylinder on a cossie it is usually plug 3/4 that is where the gasket tends to fail.

How bad is the miss fire chap? i have just had the same problem due to a plug melting, But the tip of my plug ended up falling into the engine, and doing damage to my head and it also scored the bore so mines apart haveing a rebuild at the moment! Just wondering if the same has happened to yours?

Get the car checked not just the injector mate. Plugs shouldnt melt like that if its running properly as long as u use the right ones for the spec.

It could be you have too much boost going thru and its leaning out, or a few other problems that only a tuner would be able 2 diagnose!!!

The max for it again would be down to the specific chip as some are mapable and only the person who mapped it would know so again get it to a tuners fisrt!!

Althou what plugs were in it ie the melted one?! could also be a case of the wrong plug as standard ones dont like stage 2/3 setups!!! but most are gapped to .65 mate

Thanks for the info guys.

Sounds like I need to get it to someone to have it checked out. (I'm thinking of getting in touch with Stu at M Developments for a live mapping session)

For info, car is running standard fuel pump (its a saph 4x4 btw) and the plug that melted was an AGPS 092P.

I've now put in a set of AGPS 071C and it's much much better. Still a slight miss at about 5500 in 4th.

rosco22, sorry to here about your misfortune mate. I've been there before. Not nice.

Call me lazy, crazy or whatever you want, but I've done nothing about this yet...

A couple of weeks ago, it did exactly the same to plug #3... so something is definately wrong here eh?

Can anyone recommend someone in cleveland/north east area who can check for it running lean etc and sort it out? I need to get it sorted... not going to drive it (much) until then...

Cheers,
Boon

HI mate,

check you have the correct plug heat range also for the boost you
are running, as plugs will get hot and melt tips, with big damage, and as above check fuel pressure preferably on boost,
co% , and have your injectors flow checked even when
brand new? either wrong plugs, mixture weak, down to pump, injectors
vacuum leak etc, check with who mapped it boost limit,
looking at the picture of the plugs, they look to hot for the boost you
are running(heat range) what are they make and numbers,

You have got to change the fuel pump - the standard pump can't cope with that sort of boost. This could well be the problem!

You should also get it set up ASAP!

HI,

AS far as im aware the std pump will cope if in good condition with
your 3,bar setup on greens 803's all cosworth, except escort cosworth,
check boost limit for chip, i chipped cosworth with this setup with a turbosystems chip
and peaked at 24/25 psi of boost, solid 23psi. with rs500 intercooler.
and champion plugs 57/ 59 c's after checking fuel pressure and delivery
of pump including voltage at pump, and setting co% to chip recommended requirement. also
flow checked the injectors although they were new, 1, was faulty.
