Default Mondeo mk1 build ...... engine help.!!!

Evening guys... im planing a mk1 mondeo btcc / super touring tribute now that ive finished my gmc typhoon.
i have a 1993 mk1 saloon 1.8 manual.
Im looking for info regarding what engine will mate up to the 1.8 gearbox.... zetecs / later duratec from.st150 fiesta etc...... or if using a duratec and it doesn't then what gearbox will easy fit the mondeo shell and mate to the o.e shafts / hubs etc.
plan to build a 250 to 300bhp n/a screamer
Thanks in advance .

Obvious upgrade is a 2.0 Zetec. The St170 badged as a Duratec will fit and is better still. You will need to tip thousands into one of these to get over a real 200bhp.

None of the proper Duratecs will fit your box. If your box is the lower duty box as found in the mk1 1.8 Mondingo then it’s a non starter any way as it won’t hack it.

The mk1 also come with the 2.5 v6 Duratec 25 with the mtx75. If you could get the box and shafts from one of these and fit the 3.0 St220 Duratec 30 engine. This would do the 300bhp with head work, cams, throttle bodies, the whole nine yards.

Now that would be a screamer

Appreciate the input regarding the v6 but really want to stick to a 4 pot unit.
does anyone know if there is a box that will mate to the duratec 4 cylinder that the shafts will fit etc without major engineering i.e using off the shelf bits. Im not so worried about mounts etc .
Or would the 2.0 from a mk2 engine and box go in using existing shafts ?

Mk2 is still a Zetec. Just a Blacktop instead of silvertop. The mk2 1.8 comes with the same Mtx75 as the 2.0.

Mk3 is a Duratec and come with a variety of Mtx75. I have no idea how or if the mounts and shafts differ.
