ford focus mk1 ecu swap ???
hi
so I had an issue with no firing on 1 and 4 changed coil pack and was just the same
I was advised to change the ecu which I have done and I do have the key from the car the exchange ecu came from
after swapping the ecu and with the key present the car will not even turn over
I have noticed that on turning the key the alarm light does not go out so I am suspecting there is a security issue
there is another box next to the ecu labeled contr asy - r/cont lk & alrm sys mn
my question is this
have I got the ecu / key swap wrong, it there any reset I should do ? or do I need to go back and get the other box ?
many thanks
alan

You say the key is present. Have you put the new chip in the old key. The distance that it can read it is tiny. Millimeters. Also if the old chip is still in the key it will read that first.

Might need instrument cluster from the donor car too.
PATS (IMMO) is in the ECU, the other box is c/locking /perimeter alarm.
Put your old ecu back in that runs or cranks and see if it will run/crank with the cluster disconnected.

No you shouldn't need the dash for the mk1. The body control ecu ( bcu) General electronics module ( Gems ) as its also known does the alarm ect.
The bcu does see the pats signal but I have swapped ecus before with out swapping the gems unit. Ive played with a lot of Ford ecus but because I take the engines out of the donor ive never really played with the gems.
Does the ecu have the same four digit code ?
And the rfid chip really does have to be be in the perfect place and not just close by.
