Default Escort rs1600i misfires at low revs

ESCORT rs1600i (running twin coils) starts ok , drives ok when cold. When it warms up it misfires at low Revs but stops at high revs. Changed coil , leads , plugs, checked pipes, cleaned throttle body , plenum flap. My heads done in. Anyone know how to check to see if the auxiliary air device etc is working?

Do these have a vehicle speed sensor? My similar aged pug 205 has one and it tells the car to swap maps at low (idle) speed but they can play up and lead to lumpy low end.

Don’t think so. I think it’s something to do with a sensor on mfi system ,auxiliary air device, fuel shut off valve , cold start etc causing overfueling. Don’t no how to rule them out. It ticks over / rev ok on the drive , but soon as you take it out ! It stars of as a slight miss as low revs , then a few miles later it starts to miss like fook till after 2500 rpm ,, then it takes off longer you drive it the worse it gets.

AAV is easy to inspect, wait till the engine is warm (properly warm not "idled from cold for 10mins warm"), pop off a pipe and shine a torch down - the half moon should be as good as closed. If it was stuck open your idle would be sky high anyway.
CSV - you'd be bogging down or smell the fuel if it was stuck open, its unmetered unlike the main injectors.
Fuel shut off device you should be able to hear working - or put your hand on it, rev up and over 2.5k (i cant remember the actual cut off - think its like 1.7k but higher will ensure its triggered), let off and you should feel it click. Again if it failed shut - it will not be letting any air pass and will have no influence on mixture, if its failed open, you will be getting air bypass the throttle but again i'd expect a raised idle.

I'd be looking at the WUR (warm up regulator) from a troubleshooting perspective - the part everyone overlooks on K-Jet. Monitor pressure from cold through the warm up cycle. I notice you dont mention touching your fuel filter in your list- it could be as simple as that also!

Isn't there a primitive kind of TDC pick up for the coils on these? Have heard of them breaking down too.

Thanks for that.
I asumed the fuel cut off on the side of air box was working as both lights come on the dash when you let off throttle , but had a listen and can’t hear a click. Tried 2 more and they don’t click, (never checked lights) , is there anyway of checking wires are working ie test light etc I also have a spares for the other sensor valves, is there anyway of checking these before I fit them ? It’s had a new fuel filter and service ,

I’ve cleaned up sensor , tried another 2 sets of coils , one of which is off a car that runs. Another ecu. It ticks over no problem on drive , soon as I drive it , it starts spluttering after about a mile , then gradually gets worse and worse , then it starts misfiring running on 2pots till about 3000rpm , then backfired and takes off like stink.
