Default Oil leak and wheel noise

Hi all,

Looking for some help here

I have a 08 focus st-2 and i appear to have a leak and a noise coming from the drivers front wheel. I can see a wet patch on the under tray and after touching it, it seems to be a brown substance so im guessing its oil. At the same time of this developing, when driving there is a whirring noise coming from the drivers front wheel, it makes the noise on each wheel revolution.

The car is 2 years over due a service (i know, im sorry) so could the oil filtet be shot?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

2 years overdue a service? It's probably sludged up to fuck and is blowing oil out of wherever it can.

I know bud. Would you happen to know where the fault(s) lie?

Seems to be coming out from around a black cap with a large screw type thing on top. Towards the left side of the engine

Welcome to the forum.

Whiring noise could be a worn wheel bearing. They can be checked by jacking up the car and trying to rock the wheel top and bottom, or another method I've heard of is to grab hold of the suspension spring and spin the wheel and you'll feel vibrations in the spring. (never tried this one myself).

Thank you chopshop, appreciate the reply. Upon looking at another forum it sounds exactly like the bearing. Very worried about the oil leak although im hoping its just the filter/seal - the oil seems to be either side of the oil filter housing then down on the pan thing
