Default escort brake lights sissing

My rear brake lights don't seem to want to play nice I really dunno what's left to check, i've checked all the fuses in the fuse box and they all seem to be working, the bulbs seem to be fine, i've taken the connector off the brake pedal switch and i've run a positive wire straight to that - when I do that the outside rear lights come on?? the brake lights are the inside lights on the boot ain't they? That's really confused me. Will it help if I get photos? Can I just hard wire / re-route it somehow from the pedal switch to the lights?

i've just finished replacing al lthe shocks and some springs, the exhaust, some bodywork, loads of other things just so I can mot and sell it - this is the onlty thing holding me up, I was gonna book it in about 4 days ago till I noticed the brake lights don't work

any suggestions?

Would it pass the mot if instead I just installed a high level brake light - just one of those thin strips that sit at the top of the window.

one of these:

then I could take the bulbs out of the normal brake lights and class them as reflectors?

no, that woulnt pass, the way to check the brake switch is to link the wires together, if the 2 OUTER lights come on, its the switch, the inside lights are fogs arnt they?

inside ones are fog lights only on most fords only one is connected, high level light is connected in the harness, if lights are on all the time then the switch on brake pedal needs re-setting.

could anyone tell me where the brake light wires come to in the front? do they go to the fuse box? what fuse number is it on? the haynes diagram might as well be in chinese tbh I'll re-wire the lights straight to the switch.

here's some pics if it helps

thats the connector that I took off the switch above the brake pedal and their's a positive wire running into it (the outside lights come on for some reason when I do this?):

this is the switch I took it from:

ok cool getting somewhere (I posted that without seeing the replies /\) so the inner lights are the fogs and the outside are the brake lights? yeh the outside ones are on all the time when I have the main beams on (nothing when just the ignition is on)

just took the switch off and connected it up and the same thing - on all the time when the main lights are on. anyone know which fuse it is on the fuse board? it's either that or the switch itself is knackered inside, that's the only 2 things I can think of.

brake switch on pedal looks to be faulty, also if pedal is lifted the switch will auto adjust and light will stay on, the switch and wiring is seperate to other lights, fuse number 34 thats the one for brake light.
