Help with T3 ID
I have just bought what i have been led to believe is a Stage 3 T3 for an RS turbo, it has been built by CR turbos and aledgedly has a 360 degree thrust bearing and the all important .48 cosworth exhaust housing. However i have visually compared it against my standard RST exhaust housing and to me it looks identical, there are no numbers/markings on my new housing so how can i work out if it IS a cossie housing?
The only markings i can see are 'CR turbos' on the compressor back plate and actuator
Also it is supposed to have a bigger compressor but this too looks identical to my spare one, both have .42 stamped on them. If i was to strip both units down and measure at various points, what areas do i need to measure or is there anything that will be obvious that my new turbo is what its described to me

The compressor wheel comes in a 50/55/60 trim I beleive it will be a 55 trim wheel same as a standard 2wd sapphire if you measure the wheel with internal dividers it should be Niger than yours.
The exhaust housing should have a .48 cast in the side next to the flange.

Yeah as above the cosworth,rs turbo all use the .42 compressor housing, but the compressor wheel trims are the following as standard. A 4x4 .60 compressor housing is slightly different to a 2wd one to accomadate the different wheel.
If a cossie exhaust housing then the actuator brcket has to be modded as the standard housing wastegate arm is in a different position to the cos housing. The cosworth exhaust housing uses a 3 bolt flange, I think the escort rs turbo uses a 5 ?
rs turbo t3
std compressor housing ar 42, compressor wheel trim 45 exhaust housing ar 36
stage 1 usually bigger compressor wheel trim 270 bearing.
stage 2 usually bigger compressor wheel trim 360 bearing.
stage 3 usually bigger exhaust housing .48, bigger compressor wheel trim and 360 bearing.
2wd cos t3
std compressor housing ar 42, compressor wheel trim 55, exhaust housing ar 48
stage 1 usually bigger compressor wheel trim 360 bearing.
stage 2 usually bigger compressor wheel t34 trim machined to t3 housing 360 bearing
stage 3 usually bigger exhaust housing .63, t34 compressor wheel and t34 housing and 360 bearing
4x4 cos t3
compressor housing ar 42, compressor wheel trim 60 exhaust housing ar 48
stage 1 360 bearing
stage 2 usually bigger compressor wheel t34 machined to t3 housing, 360 bearing
stage 3 usually bigger exhaust housing .63, t34 compressor wheel and t34 housing and 360 bearing
