Default Ford Focus ST170 cut out and now won't start P1233

Last night my Ford Focus ST170 cut out while driving and now will not start.

It was running fine the journey before which I drove around 10 miles with no problems or hesitations.

At the time it happened I was doing 30mph and it just cut out, I tried bumping it a couple of times while I was free wheeling and it would start but then cut out again.

Luckily I was about 50 yards from my house and could free wheel home. I then tried to start it again a few times and it would start but them immediately die again and you couldn't rev the engine.

After a few times it now won't start. I got my code reader out of the glove box and the last code is P1233.

Can anyone help with this? What should I check first.

Thank you in advanced.

Thanks for this Gary.

Started to look at buying a new one of these for the Focus but thought i would double check fuses and relays first before going mad with the credit card!

Fuse to the fuel pump had blown!! Replaced and i'm on my way again!! it's been a few days now and motor hasn't missed a beat!

Anyone know why this might happen? Should I be looking at buying a new fuel pump if this happens again?

The fuel pump COULD be failing, pulling more amps to keep it spinning which is why the fuse blew. Be worth checking wiring to the pump is ok, although on a modern car I doubt this is the issue.

Having said that I seem to remember a problem with them where there is a wiring plug fitted to a sensor on the end of the fuel rail. The wiring to this plug has a habit of wearing through or breaking. This measures fuel pressure and controls the demand of fuel from the pump so could be worth a look.

Thanks RichieST will double check this.

I did unplug this connection along with the MAF sensor before checking the fuses. May have made a diffrence but will also do a closer inspection for bare wires.

Thank You
